To pay a basic or not to pay a basic wage in Tenerife

Hey... Maybe it's me, you know... the old synic that just won't lay down and die... Or... just an idea... maybe it's NOT me.

I look at this from a slightly different angle, or maybe the same angle as most people and think to myself...

"Hey, if I was offering a job that was commissin only then I'd advertise the fact that there was no basic and simply get rid o fthe time wasters"

Or is that far too simple...?

Spleen sufficiently vented.

Hasta

Yes... we (me and my bloke) hate it when people advertise jobs and don't say the hours, contract or rate of pay...

What's the point in going for an interview if you know that you a) can't afford to take it on b) have a family, so need a contract or c) can only work days or nights depending on your situation?...

Well, isn't it a waste of everyone's time if you turn up for an interview for a job you can't take anyway?

Seems common sense to me...

Can I just add a moan here as a new employer who has taken on someone on a part time contract paying 1,000 euros NET (sorry, said gross in first post)

Today I found out that the total cost to me will be 1,457.50

Think that might go a long way to explain why people only want to pay commission (agree of course it should be advertised as such)

And it doesnīt stop there Doreen.......Thereīs tax to be paid as well. So what is a employer supposed to do exactly ?????. I pay depending on experience so it wouldnīt be correct for me to advertise a minimum wage. I say if your after a job you can take 5 minutes of your time to contact me and ask. For example a employees 1200 euros a month soon becomes 2000 euros a months after tax, insurance, van, liable insurance, fuel, Social, holidays, fiestas, damages, repairs do i need to go on. theirīs just too many people around that think if your not living in a rented studio you must be racking it in.

On the flipside of that though there are also a lot of employers that DON'T put people on proper contracts for the hours they work because of it, or maybe because they think they can get away with it... who knows. This leaves employees without rights to healthcare, pension, holidays etc.

And before I get jumped on, there are those employees that spoil it for all the hardworking ones that once they get an indefinite, promptly go on 'the sick' and start taking the mickey because they know they are safe.

It's the dodgy people (workers and employers) that spoil it for the rest of us honest, hardworking folk and it REALLY gets on my wick.

Thatīs the problem Kirsty you said it before i did this morning. The dodgy people spoil it for the good workers 100 % agree with you, whatīs why i mainly use freelance people now but have the so good people filtered out. For example drinky drinky disappear for 3 dayīs, is rife. If you ask employers the majority will say itīs difficult to find good people willing to work weather it be English, Irish , Spanish what ever
