Need some advice please in relation to work contract

My husband and i are employed as part time cleaners on a small complex.
In return for this work we dont get paid, instead we live rent free in a studio on the complex. We dont pay any water, electric or any other fees and have full use of the facilities inside our studio which includes a television and a digibox system. We have a 6 month contract at present and as we will have been there one year in May we are due a indefinado.
At the recent AGM it was decided that we are now responsible for the annual maintanance of the digibox, approx 90 euros. as the community no longer wish to pay it. Surely if the equipment is owned by the community they should be responsible for the annual fee?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I dont see the relevance to your work contract, I understand you would like them to continue paying but at the AGM they have decided not to and I think that is the way it will stand. The digibox is of really no benefit to the community apart maybe from keeping its employees happy....

Would have thought ownership of equipment went hand in hand with maintenance!!!!

Why I own a lawnmower but dont necessarily maintain it.... is the maintenance fee here to allow viewing or to cover repairs? regardless of which the community has no obligation to pay in my opinion as the digibox will not be part of your contract .........

You don't say if the "perks" you receive in lieu of wages are written into a contract, that really is the crux I think, what agreement was put in writing when you undertook the arrangement - was the digi box included or not.
Or are you receiving nominas (wage slips) which show an amount of money that you sign for but don't receive?

I can see your point but to be honest I don't think it is worth rocking the boat over €90 a year. You are due an indefinido so I would not risk that. Just my 2 pennerth.

I know I am being a wee bit cynical but they might be looking for a way to AVOID giving you the Indefinedos.

TV box at less than 2 E per week or the benefits of 2 full contracts ???????

Not worth arguing over IMHO

My thoughts exactly Peter. Probably find more than 2 euros a week in the course of their duties.
