No, I´ve come across many "foreigners" working in hotels (front of house) - however, they all do seem to speak fluent Spanish. Would presume a good level of Spanish would also be necessary for kitchen work.

you don't need to be absolutely fluent! i worked in a hotel as a receptionist for a few months myself and my spanish was still fairly poor at the time. but you need to be able to make yourself understood in the language!!

But CornflakeGirl, didn´t you already speak several other languages at the time ? Probably why you got the job without a great command of Spanish.

I am not saying you need fluent Spanish for any job out here ... if that was the case, then there would be a lot of unemployed British on the island. The question was about Spanish hotels from someone who works in catering.

Can anybody help me, please

Hi 'cornflakegirl', you say you've worked in a hotel as a receptionist? Well, I am originally from south africa and have been living in the uk for a while, and I am really fed up with the weather here. Ive just been to tenerife for hols, and really really want to move out there around september/october this year. I can speak afrikaans (which is almost exactly the same as dutch) and i also reasonably understand German and can have steady convos in german and french. I plan to take up a Spanish language course here soon.

I was wondering whether you can give me some info on getting jobs like a receptionist, or a child-minder assistant in the kids clubs that some resorts provide. Can you give me advice on how I would go about getting a job like that? Or maybe if you know someone I can contact about it.

I hope to hear back
Cheers, M-J
