Does anyone know anything about asking for time off work in Tenerife?

I currently have my fmaily staying with me. I work from 9am until 6pm Monday to Friday. During the week I only see the kids for half hour in the morning due to work commitments. Next week is their last week here. My boss is currently away from work. I asked him if I could take a few hours off work next week to spend with the kids (both under three) and promised to make the time up. He has failed to reply to my email, but I know he has read it. Any ideas about my next plan of attack. My family only come out once a year and in the past he has been fine about time off. But I have recently been ill and had to take time off work (with a baja - his last memo to staff said if we didn't have a baja on day one we would be sacked) and I think this is what has annoyed him.

If you have his phone number would it not be best to ring him to ask about it? Face to face is always the best but if that's not possible then the phone is better than an email.

Have a look through HERE too ... it´s more general, but extremely valuable information.

Unfortunately he has not taken his mobile phone with him and has not let us know a phone number to reach him. He is only accessible by email. I didn't even know he was going away or I would have said something to his face before he went. He never says no face to face, but is never very forthcoming via email or even the phone for that matter.

Is he Spanish? Could his reticence by email and phone be simply a difficulty with language?? I know I´ve struggled with Spanish over the phone where you can´t see hand or facial gestures, and written language, even in an email, is very different syntactically from the spoken word. Could you get someone to email him in Spanish for you??

Apologies if you´re fluent in Spanish, and/or he´s English!

there must be someone doing his job while he is away you should be able to ask them.

although under spanish law no answer can be taken as an affirmative i would not take this view in this case.

if you can´t get him don´t take the time off.

under spanish law the simple threat it´s self is grounds for compensation.

the threaten someone with anything is very illegal in spain.
