Oh not again!!! Sorry GB, not your fault, but why oh why can they not return to the UK with your friend. They were good enough as pets here, why not there?

ok checklist....

Have we cancelled the phoneline? Yep
Have we given our notice? Yep
Have we got the deposit back on our apt? Yep
Have we got our passports? Yep
Have we emptied the bins? Yep
Are you sure you have the flight tickets? Yep

Ok, lets order a taxi.
Hang on what about the dogs?
What dogs?
Oh yeah those two, don't worry someone will take em in.

For gods sake, i thought it was only the canarians that thought dogs had no feelings and no soul????????

These are part of the family, get em chipped and passport and take them with you, even if it means fostering them with someone for 6 months, would you leave your kids here and try and re-home them?
And before the politically correct brigade jump on me saying they have no choice etc etc,
Yes they have, we all have a choice, you can explain to a child why you are dumping it, can you explain that to a dog or dogs that adores you, wakes up every day for you?
I am so sick of logging in every day and seeing more and more abandoned animals being dumped by the people their very worlds revolve around!
For gods sake if you have to leave the Island make your plans including your animals, cos they selfishlesly include you every day of their lives!
Honestly i can't say how angry every thread i read like this makes me.

(Garlicbread i know this is your friends and not you so i am not having a go at you)

Well put Andy!!
I DO NOT GET WHY people get dogs WITHOUT commiting themselves to 13 (ish) years of care. As you say, too many threads like this. Not garlicbreads fault she is trying to help. Garlicbread, give them a collective bollocking from us lot will you, you never know it might just sink in.

about four years I too was struggling here to make ends meet, I was offered a very good job in the Uk and was very tempted, live would be a whole lot easier, there was even accomodation with the post.
But I had my beloved Jess to think about, I couldnt afford to take her with me I barely could afford my own flight, so I turned down the job, got a second part time job here and struggled on.
I eventually turned the corner and now have a better life and 5 dogs including Jess who has repaid me many times for sticking by her
Think hard and long before you commit to a dog, will you really be able to survive here for the next 13 years or so

Do people not understand .A DOG IS FOR LIFE .
so many people get her and it's oh 'lets get a dog' with no thought about if it dose'nt work out .They put no thought into the dogs feelings and 'yes they do have feelings ' and are very loyal to there owners. I get concerned about people who come out here there not sure if it is going to work out they then decide lets get a pet . Pet is well happy he / she has a home .settles in then they decide its time to move on.
I have heard of someone who moved here gave her dog in the uk away and now they have one here .to me thats just as bad .
i get to emotionally upset with the plight of animals here i realy wish there was more that could be done .
I have read in the local paper one add 2 dogs need rehoming mixed bread 45 euro's each! another 1 free to good home only 7 months old too why did they get 1 in the first place.

I wish people would think long and hard before getting a pet .
If you get a pet please make sure you have enough money to take her back with you as /A dog is for life 13 years if your lucky .It's not fare to take them for 1 year or 2 thats a long time in doggy years ....

Hi all and thanks for your responses, oh and by the way SQ, garlicbread is a MALE!

I want you all to know that my friend has lived on our Island for more than 12 years and is a committed and caring dog lover, she has taken in many "rescued dogs" in her time here. The reason she now HAS to go back to the UK is to look after her ageing and ailing mother and the accomodation they will have to share as a result is just not the place for animals, it really is as simple as that. She herself is not looking for sympathy but is desperate to rehome her two dogs which have been with her for 6+ years.

I will pass your comments on to her, she is not the type to be upset by them, as she will well understand your feelings.

Meanwhile the problem remains so any help will be gratefully accepted.

Just to add a few points to my original post

Both dogs are chipped but not passported because, until these new circumstances arose, there was no thought of returning to the UK.

My friend's third dog, also rescued, has already been found a new home here but Lui and Benjy are still in need.

Rest assured, they will not be dumped - in the street or with Eugenio, K9 or any other hard-pressed animal charity. All it needs is for some compassionate animal lover to step in with some constructive help instead of offering just the usual instant, usually,ill-informed rush to judgement that characterises many of the contributors to this and other forums. Nothing personal aimed at other dog lovers you understand

Ok. On that note from Garlicbread, we will have to say that any more posts about people being neglectful of animals etc. on this thread will be removed, as they are really not helping the object of the original post - to rehome the dogs.

I know a lot of members on the forum have strong feelings on this, me included, as there are many many threads and comments already about it, however the thread was put on for a specific purpose and different people have different circumstances.

Thanks for understanding

Just a post to move it up the latest posts ladder. As Kirsty points out, the object is to find new homes for the dogs. I already have two rescue dogs and am not in a position to take on more but hopefully someone can help out.
