How long will my Vodafone pay-as-you-go dongle be valid for in Tenerife?

Greetings from snowy East Sussex, I do hope you've all dried out after those dreadful storms. The pictures looked quite something.

OK, I bought a Vodafone PAYG internet dongle when I was in Tenerife last year but the credit has now expired. I was wondering if anyone knew exactly how long the actual number is kept? I won't be back until next Christmas and I can't seem to top it up on the Vodafone Spain site but would like to keep it active if I can.

Could anyone give me a bit of advice please?

Thanks

There are other threads that address this. Do a search for 'dongle' and they will come up.

Re: How long will my Vodafone pay-as-you-go dongle be valid for in Tenerife?

I'm in Tenerife at the moment and have bought an Orange one for 49 euros plus 20 euros credit which lasts for 7 days and gives me 1 gig before it slows down. I could buy daily use which is about 3.90 euros a day. As the instructions are in Spanish I will have to do some research when I get home to see if there are any rules about having to top up so many times to keep the registration.

Sorry I can't be of any more help.

Re: How long will my Vodafone pay-as-you-go dongle be valid for in Tenerife?

Bought a vodaphone dongle in Tenerife, paid approx €48 and paid an additional €50 for 30 days usage.
I understand that I can pay additional money to extend this.

Re: How long will my Vodafone pay-as-you-go dongle be valid for in Tenerife?

Thanks to everyone for their replies.

Ellisa1 - I've heard we're having settled snow by the end of the week. This has been a long winter!

Thanks to some very helpful off board PMs, here's what I have figured out with the Vodafone dongle:

The expiry date of the SIM card if you don't top it up is on the cellophane wrapper it came in (the one with the bar code on). Mine has now expired so I can't top it up on line at Vodeafone.es. It looks like they last about 8 months.

The Vodafone site does sell data sim cards only for 29 Euros. However, it's not a pay online facility, it's strictly cash on delivery. You need to supply either your NIE number OR passport number and nationality and have these with you when the card is delivered.

You also need a Spanish mobile phone number as they text you 48 hours before delivery.

It's the same principle for a dongle and card purchase from their web site.

As I don't have a Tenerife address I can't use that option. What a palaver!

Hope the information helps others though.

Best regards

Re: How long will my Vodafone pay-as-you-go dongle be valid for in Tenerife?

I have a UK o2 mobile broadband dongle which is unlocked for use in the uk as it accepts 3, T Mobile and BT Mobile sim cards ive tried in it.

Would anyone happen to know if I could therefore buy a spanish network pay & go sim card and use it in it and which of the networks would be cheapest and have best coverage in Los Cristianos? If so can I just walk into a phone shop and buy a sim card would anyone know?
