A calima is when the wind brings sand over from the Sahara and it acts like a blanket over the islands. It is like being in a fog and in summer it makes it VERY hot and everything gets covered in red dust.

Unhappy What is the difference between a Calima and a Scirocco?
Am I experiencing my 1st calima right now?

Last night was so, so hot & unbearable with a very warm breeze & today is just the same.

It feels like I can´t breathe!!

So, are we having a calima right now?

Yep

I've had a busy week, so spent all day yesterday having a good clean-up ... what a waste of time ... sand everywhere.

Yes we do have a calima right now....normally they last for 3 or 5 days unless it develops into a sirocco.

Its red sand from the sahara desert being picked up and blown over the islands.....the sky looks really hazy and clouds but it is sand......it gets everywhere and is annoying lol....

one of the mods may put the link to the thread with the satelite pics on as I do not know where that is.
