'Warm but not too warm' weather prediction for Summer 2006
With summer officially under way as of 2pm yesterday, the Met Office predicts that the season will not be excessively hot in the Canaries this year. Unlike the rest of Spain, where the forecast in several parts is for a very hot few weeks in early July (indeed, temperatures have already soared in the south of the country), the Canaries are likely to be spared sweltering weather for the moment.
Ramon Ruiz, a forecaster at the Office here, says that the consecutive heatwaves of two years ago are 'very unlikely' and only a few sporadic episodes of very high temperatures are anticipated during the 93 days of the summer season.
