Do you sweat like a fountain, take bad headaches, stay indoors during the afternoon? Can't cope without air-con and parasols and complain that it's 'too hot?'
Or do you bask in the rays, slouch around all dopey and sun drunk, thrive like a flower and bare as much skin to the elements as possible?

Many years ago I used to lie and bake from morning till night, like a roast chicken on a spit. The mid day sun was the best time of day for me. Started with suncream factor 2 for first few days and then none I don't think they even make that anymore. Anyway the browner the better that's what it was all about Oh how proud I was that I was almost black. Fast forward 20 years and now I have so many little white dots on my legs you could play dot to dot on them, doctor says it's due to no pigment left in those areas due to excessive sun exposure. So for all you young ones that are soaking it up at every opportunity be warned! the sun really will damage your skin but it may not show for years. I am very lucky that my face is not like a prune (SHUT UP!) or I haven't developed skin cancer. I now use factor 40 or 50.

You're lucky, lovethesun, you obviously have/had good tanning skin. I tried to get a tan when I was young on many occasions and got burnt quite badly here in Tenerife when I was 19. But I realised that when you have naturally blond hair and white skin you don't go brown!!!! So for years now I have avoided the sun. I still get a bit pinkened now and again by accident, but I use high factor sun creams, I sit in the shade or indoors and I wear a hat and look a right twit in it to boot but it has to be, because the skin where my hair parts gets burned. I'm pretty good at applying fake tan nowadays though!

Paula and I bask in the sun on an average of 6 hours a day when we visit Tenerife
We both sweat like fountains, but you will never hear us complaining that it's too hot

You sound like me - I burn right down my parting!! And everywhere else except that I too use high factor sun creams and try to stay in the shade as much as possible. I don't go in for the fake tan though. I'm proud to be pale!!
I have actually tanned a little in the short time I've been here - it's just that nobody else recognises slightly off-white as a tan and they didn't see me before!!

It used to to 40+ degrees in Sydney once or twice a year... but with relatively low humidity. So some days it would feel like a fan forced oven outside. Temps higher than 37-38, are another thing altogether... I suppose I'm accustomed to hot weather (I relish it and it's my favourite time to go out for a ride). So this climate seems milder for me.
EDIT: Actually Australians are bombarded with scare-campaigns about sun tanning and the risks of getting skin cancer (cause I think OZ has once of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world). They'll say "there's no such thing as a healthy tan", and that you need to apply suncream, wear a shirt, a hat, and sunglasses. BUT WE NEED SOME EXPOSURE TO SUNLIGHT! I reckon that the 100% humidity which the tropics/equator experiences is far worse than high temperatures...
But I disgress... It's been ages since I went for a sunbake here in Tenerife... I think I might have to go this week down to El Lago and soak up some rays.
You came for the sunshine - I don't know why you'd whinge about it now!?
