Question What is the weather like away from the coast in Tenerife?

We are moving to Tenerife on 1st December. I will be working in Calleo Salvaje. I have seen some really nice houses in Chio and Guia De Isora but one of the ladies I will be working with is putting me off. She says it is cold and too far to travel to and from work. What do you think? Also I have two children aged 7 and 9 and would like them to go to local spanish school. Does anyone know what the schools are like in these areas?

It's bloody fantastic up here. The school's really nice (and easy to get into), the views are wonderful, and the village is lovely and friendly.

I know of a few apartments up here and they're all a lot more spacious and a lot cheaper than on the coast.

I have no probs living here. I've been in Chio for 3.5 years now.

There's an English classroom assistant in the local school too, so your kids would be well looked after.

The main health centre is in Guia which has the paediatrics dept for the kids' checkups...

Yes, it gets colder than the rest of the island in winter, but in the height of summer it gets warmer than the coast up here too... plus the temperature is never as cold as it is in England, so it's better than what you're used to

It takes about 25mins to drive to Los Cris, about 20 to Callao and 12 mins to Alcalá and Playa de la Arena for the beach. I used to travel 45 mins to 1.5 hours each way in rush hour traffic or on the tube to get to work in the UK, so is that too far...?

I personally find that folks out here get used to being 5 mins from anything (incidentally, I'm 5 mins from Guia, and that has all the shopping requirements I need) so anywhere a bit further out seems like miles away to them!

There's a bar up the road that has a band on once a month... need I say more?

If you fancy coming up and having a look around, give me a PM and I'll be happy to show you the village.

When you say colder - how much colder - winter woolies? We did drive through in December and the car temperature said 20 which to me is quite hot! Does it go much lower? It looks really pretty. Is the traffic bad in the morning from Chio to Calleo?

Sorry - this is getting like 20 questions but it so nice to have info from someone who lives there!

Let's put it this way, in winter I wear a jumper.... but I have NO heating... I also wear a jumper when I go into Los Cris at night in winter too... we do get a bit more rain up here than on the coast, however I actually find that a nice change after an intense summer and the rain's warm

I have known it to go down to 12 degrees at it's coldest. I was back in the UK in April and it was 7 degrees... and that was supposed to be spring!!! We booked then because I thought it would be bearable, but the kid's were moaning 'cos it was so cold!

Once you become aclimatised to the constant temps on the coast, I suppose it is colder up here, but if you're moving straight out, it'll be a lot warmer than you're used to.

The traffic from here to Callao is fine in the mornings. It's only when you hit Adeje roundabout that you get queues to go on the motorway... sometimes you have to wait as long as 10 minutes there! But you won't be going that far.

I also know all the short cuts which I will happily pass on.
