I am looking to book accommodation around 9th/10th August for 2 weeks. I looked at the costs of flights and they appear to be circa £300 (from Manchester/Liverpool) which felt pricey to me given we now have Easyjet and Ryanair in the mix.

Is there such a thing as the best time to book flights to get the best price (x weeks before departure date) and are some days cheaper than others. My party is a family of 4 so I don't want to leave it to the last minute in case we can't get 4 seats.

Any advice appreciated.

out of the school season, i used to work in the schools until recently and i had to book at the school holidays but now that i can wait and go at the less busy times it is great i can just watch the flights and go in and book a cheap flight when i see it sometime i book one way and then go find a cheap flight the other way sometime it is a lot cheaper if you go over a little bit for instance we find it is cheaper to go 16
days instead of 14 days . try skyscanner they are usually good at getting cheap flights for you

If you choose SCHEDULED airlines, the prices increase the later you book. CHARTER airlines usually get cheaper, depending how many bookings they have, and they get really cheap 1 or 2 days before departure, but in August with 4 travelling its a bit risky,

Thanks - I will wait until nearer the time without putting at risk not securing 4 seats. Does which day in the week have any bearing on cost? E.g. is Tuesday departure cheaper than Saturday?

Also is 16 days cheaper that the conventional 7/14 days?

can't really say what days are best for the simple reason a lot of the airlines only fly on a tuesday and a friday but others like globespan fly everyday. in april we are flying on a wednesday with globespan and coming back friday with thomas cook 16 days we saved a lot of money that way but everyone has different ways of doing it 16 days i find is cheaper that way as i can book a cheap flight midweek

Hubby spent 23 days here at Christmas, what he saved on the flight prices going back covered his stay here. If you can book anything other than conventional 7 ,14 nights it can work out cheaper

that was exactly the same as us jackie at christmas we did 25 days and it was a lot cheaper and more than covered the extra days
