Will I get penalised under the Ryan Air Baggage Allowance rules coming to Tenerife?
Hi gang,
can ye let me know of your experiences wrt baggage allowances on Ryan Air ?
the website claims:
"The checked baggage allowance is 15kg per person (no infant allowance). No pooling/sharing of baggage allowances is permitted, even for passengers travelling together on the same reservation.
Customers wishing to check baggage into the hold of the aircraft must pay a baggage Fee for each item of checked baggage, per flight. The Baggage Fee can be prepaid either at the airport, or through a Ryanair call centre, at the rate of £10/€12 per item of baggage/per one way flight."
So I have 3 bags like most people - Large, medium, small. In my previous experiences (span air/monarch) the little bag = max 10, medium = max 18, large = max 24. This we have shared between 5 of us without problems.
Are ryan air going to penalise us or is it ok between family ?

I can't answer you on this one but from what you have quoted from their website it would seem that you would not even be able to pool with family members. This sounds like another "STING" by the airlines. They are getting more sneaky about finding ways to charge people extra.
Why not email and ask them? What about 2 people travelling together with 1 suitcase at say 20 kilos? Would they charge both people an excess of 5 kilos?
From experience travelling with Ryan Air to and from Canaries they are very strict with baggage. You can only have one piece each weighing no more than 15 kilos. You cannot pool it. If it is just over they will make you unpack it or charge you. If you want to take extra then it is better to book it in advance on line to avoid being caught out.
ryan air are very strict and it does not matter that you are a family and travelling together you will be charged and if you are leaving from prestwick then only 1 piece of hand luggage is allowed and that includes your handbag well maybe not yours but you know what I mean,,,,, just noticed that you will be going from dublin but it might be the same

I agree with the above. We have always found Ryanair VERY tight on baggage, they are a budget airline & will charge extra wherever possible I have found!
We normally use Flyglobespan [well until 1 st November when they stop travelling from Stansted] They are a budget airline and really strict on baggage, total 20kg including any hand luggage. They do however allow you to pre book excess baggage at 15 pounds sterling for and extra 10kg, does Ryanair do anything similar, well worth it because I have seen so many people getting caught for being even a couple of kilos over

Question answered i'm afraid, will work out cheaper to buy some more cases than pay the fee for going over the limit.
I travel from Dublin to Tenerife with Ryanair fairly often, they are usually strict with baggage allowences remember the piece of hand luggage can weigh 10kgs so what I usually do is put the heavy items in my hand luggage and all the light stuff in a holdall for the trip avoid bringing shower gels or shampoos etc they take up weight and are very cheap in Tenerife. I also usually bring two pieces of hand luggage as you are allowed to bring a lap top DVD player etc in addition to the one piece of hand luggage. I have never seen anyone being asked to weigh their hand luggage so you can realy pile the stuff in.
