Monarch to charge for luggage

Another airline to charge for hold baggage.

"FlyMonarch to charge for hold baggage
Comments: 4
No-frills airline, flyMonarch.com, is to charge passengers for all hold baggage on its scheduled flights.

From November 1, it will charge £3.99 per checked in bag each way for passengers who pre-book online, or £10 for passengers who pay at the airport.

Hold baggage can also be pre-booked via the flyMonarch.com call centre at a cost of £8 per bag per one-way flight."

This last time we came to Tenerife we only used a quarter of our clothes.
Simple answer, don't bring so much, bung it all in your hand luggage.
I wore three shirts and two pairs of shorts and washed them, they dry in no time!

if you're coming to your own apartment and you have stuff there already then thats doable, but if you're coming to hired accommodation of any kind then its as Maxine says, its another cash cow for the airlines, with the new security measures theres an awful lot of stuff you need that you must now put in the hold whether you like it or not, and now the airlines all seem to be charging for that....its no coincidence in my opinion, and it all adds up to the cost

Exactly - they've got us by the short & curly's, so to speak

Now food is also charged extra, many people are taking sandwiches etc with them.... That'll be the next thing they stop, under some bizarre health heading, as they are losing revenue on the inflight meals due to it

I'll just take my own empty bottle

Oh, and then a compulsory 15% service charge for the crew

IMHO the food is not worth paying for anyway (on a short haul journey), we always take our own food when flying to Tenerife.

Anyway back on topic, it seems all the budget airlines are charging for hold luggage these days, we flew to Dublin with Ryaniar last week & decided to pack everything as hand luggage to avoid paying, then discovered hand luggage is 10KG max (unlike Easyjet where it is unlimited) and of course you cannot take any liquids with you then such as toiletries. We ended up having to pay £20 return for a suitcase.

So our £4.99 each way flight cost us about £50 together with taxes, baggage charges, credit card charge etc

Why does this NOT suprise me.

I can see it in the future . . . . .

'So tell me sir, would you like to travel seated or in our new standing class stalls? We have introduced them in an attempt to offer you the consumer more choice, by the way, seated is ONLY a £25 per journey premium, ideal for those who are perhaps infirm or cannot stand for long periods of time.

Should you want to take advantage of our new value Standing Stalls, you have two choices, they are Premium Standing Stalls or Standard Standing Stalls? Standard Standing Stalls give you a very comfortable full 8 inches between you and the passager in front where as our Premuim Standing Stalls (available for ONLY £10 per journey) allow you a very generous 12 inches of space - ideal for those wanting to breath on the journey.'

The thing that most annoys me that it is simply a price increase through the back door. To me, this suggests a lack of corporate integrity. Even now, some of the airlines continue to display their prices exclusive of taxes & charges, despite their watchdog's "suggestion" that these should be shown.
Perhaps the worst thing is that they take us, their customers, for being stupid, which to me is a far greater insult than paying an extra few quid for my ticket.

Rant over
