Looks as if local football club Raqui San Isidro will go out of business next week. It is though that they will fold and reform as a new club but will have to drop a league. That will be a two league drop as they have just been relegated anyway.
This is not a sports story as such. I think it is a shame that with all the money in the south of Tenerife, tourism etc that a Club cannot hold it s head above water. San Isidro enjoyed two seasons in the Spanish 2nd B league (the first Tenerife Club in 12 years to reach such a level) but the constant away journeys to the mainland proved costly especially when you consider that it was very difficult to find any decent sponsors.
No sponsors, no money. This effects the team quality ofcourse, they lose so the fans do not turn up. No income, can't pay the players, the team gets worse. Vicious circle.
By the way. Gran Canaria boasts seven clubs at 2nd B level. Why?
Because the big local businesses support and help the clubs financially. I get the impression here that many businesses are foriegn(or mainland) owned and if they are going to help a football team it could well be back in their homeland.
I may well be wrong but something is going wrong here.
Also Granadilla are in the final to go up to the Spanish 2nd B but rumours are that it "will not suit them" to get promoted. it could mean financial ruin.
