ATLETICO GRANADILLA CAN MAKE THE FINAL AND WIN PROMOTION TO THE THIRD DIVISION OF SPANISH FOOTBALL. JUST TWO LEAGUES BELOW REAL MADRID AND BARCELONA!

Atletico Granadilla play obviously in the town of Granadilla (just up from San Isidro past the south airport)

They have always played in the lower leagues but now this is there chance of making into semi pro football. If they get into the Second B they will be able to play in the Spanish Kings Cup and it is poss. that they could be playing Real Madrid up there as near as next October. Yes, Cristiano Ronaldo in Granadilla.

Why can\t you make it? How comes you are so busy lately?

Well, Granadilla have made the final! They drew 0-0 today in the 2nd leg so qualified on the away goals rule.

Great atmosphere in the tiny stadium, not sure of attendance but one if not the biggest in Granadilla's history, thousands there.
Great occasion,tick a tape, carnival type atmosphere, bands, free t-shirts for all etc...

I have to say I do find it strange that no ex-pat football fans (except for the hand full I talked to) made their way up here.

Anyway each to their own as they say, here some photos...

Well, it's thanks to you posting info on this forum that more expats are aware of it, so maybe if you keep it up the local expat support will increase... especially from people that live in and around the area.

Cheers Kirsty but I doubt it.
If it does'nt feature a big British team it does'nt interest them. They think it is nothing to do with them even though they live on the Island.

Thats why I get annoyed when people come on here (I wont mention names) and say "I love the Island" etc. and they say they are big football fans but they would not ever dream of going to cheer on a local team and pay their entrance ticket to help financially. Especially today as Granadilla were playing a team from the mainland.

Well the final will be between
GRANADILLA vs NAVALCARNERO from Madrid. The winner takes a place in the Spanish 2nd B.(third tier of the league)
The away leg on Sunday 8th June in Madrid and the home leg on Sunday 15th June in Granadilla. I will post more details as soon as they are known.

I will be in Malaga that weekend cheering on CD Tenerife with 15 or so other Armada Sur faithful so I will miss final.
Looks as if CD Malaga will need to win to go up! Tenerife need one more point to stay up, hopefully achieved next Sunday in Santa Cruz.
