Unfortunately, the restaurants seem to change hands so quickly that it is hard to keep up.

Billy's Chippy - Starco - used to go there 6 years ago when living at the Golf, long journey for a carry-out but always enjoyed it. Haven't been there since though so can't comment on the food now.

Scampi's - Compostella Beach - used to go there also quite regularly. Food good and decently priced, carry-out or sit-in, tables outside and inside. Stopped going about 1 year ago as it was so unreliable. Often we would travel across town to go there for a meal and find it closed on various different days. Also they had a habit of closing or stopping serving early if it was quiet - twice we arrived at 9pm to be told they had stopped serving even though they didn't close till 10.30. The last time we went with family in a group of 4 and there was only 1 table left outside (2 tables for 4 pushed together) and we sat down but were asked to move inside as the table was a 'Family' table. We told them we were a 'Family' but they said what if a group of 8 turned up? We asked if a group of 8 had booked the table and were told no. We were told we could sit inside or leave, so we left and have never been back. Their loss not ours - shame because the food was good.

The Chippy Torviscas - Below Sunset Bay - Worked there myself for six months or so but has since changed hands. Have been a number of times since I worked there and found the food to be good and reasonably priced. They would also give a discount card to residents which make things a little cheaper. Carry-out and tables outside.

Hope this may help a little.

Even though there is a chippy opposite where I work, that is by no means bad at all, I still always drive to THE PALMS, at THE PATCH PDLA. Its next door to The Railway Tavern.

Really good food and good prices

Don't know that one, how long has it been open?

i'm sorry to have to say but my hubby and i bought a portion of chips there on saturday and they were crap the chips were little limp greasy and recooked. they used to be brilliant a couple of years ago and i know they have changed hands as the chef used to be a neighbour of mine. our portion consisted of a box about four inches square and we were charged €2.50 thats what i call a rip off. i wanted to take them back but the other half was too embarrased. needless to say we wont be going there again

    apologies for being so grafic.

The reason we sat at a table for 6 or 8 with only 4 is that it was the ONLY table left outside and as it was a warm night, did not want to sit inside (It seemed they would rather turn us away than let us use this EMPTY table!) As for giving it another try, had too many disappointments there. Like most residents, you only give places so many chances then give up. Afterall, its not the only chippy on the island.

Fair comment, then they should have allowed you to sit on the table for 6 if it's the only remaining table outside!

Anyway lets get back on topic
