The La Estancia restaurant is a tad expensive.
We live right by it & have checked out the menu. The menu is posh & expensive (according to me).
I'd say that you would go to this restaurant on a very, very special occasion...
They have a lovely big dining area outside with a tent-type-thing (but not a marquee) & a gorgeous water feature along the length of the wall.

They also have good entertainment too some evenings with a regular bellydancer...
It's all themed moroccan style and Caroline Corr (of The Corrs) had her wedding reception there.

I've eaten at La Estancia a few times now, and my experience has been varied.
Ambiance: faded grandeur with some moroccan in the mix. Everything was probably quite nice once, but the decor has faded, the cushions are no longer as full, the marquee outside feels downright mildewed and please, if you're going to have a red carpet, make sure it's clean, vibrantly red, and doesn't have bare patches. However, all this said, it's cosy, reasonably comfortable, and has some interest.
Service: ranging from brusque to friendly to Fawlty Towers. Not all of the staff are as engaged as they should be, and whilst the service wasn't bad, it wasn't good. Food turned up reasonably promptly, nothing got dropped into my lap, but somehow I just didn't feel like my happiness was important to the staff. Oh, and please, if a plate is chipped, throw it away, don't put my food on it.
Food: there is an interesting mix of dishes on the menu. I've tried to have the degustation every time I've visited but it's always unavailable (why not just take it off the menu?). The "classic french" dishes come out far better than the fusion / modern dishes, but even then, the food is "acceptable" to "good" rather than the "above average" to "excellent" that it should be at these prices.
Overall: The service is ok, the food is ok, the ambiance is ok. I have to say, I like the batty French colonial feel this restaurant has, it's just a shame it hasn't been better maintained. This is a restaurant that, somewhere, has lost its way. It needs a firm hand at the helm to steer it back on course; make the staff care (kitchen and service) and it will get back on track. Right now, it's ok, but possibly a little over-priced for what it is.
I have got my works xmas party at La Estancia, i have never been there before and to be quite honest it will be the first slapped up meal i have had so was just wondering if anyone has ever been there before and what they think of it, as i am a bit of a fussy eater and i am worried that i probably won't be able to understand half of the menu.
Any help would be grateful
Thanks
Suzanne

As you know it is part of The Regency Country Club
As Emskie says it is very expensive and very overated. If you are a fussy eater chances are you won't eat much but then saying that they do have a new chef who I believe will leave off any sauces etc if you request where the old one would not. Go and enjoy it and at least you can have a good drink knowing you haven't got far to go home
well it's true that it is right next door to where i live and the company is paying for it. They have stated that we are then going onto a disco in torviscas where all alcohol is free. So some of us are thinking of taking advantage of the free booze and then going onto a club.

I was a guest at a private lunch on Sunday in La Estancia - the food was simply superb. I will certainly be going back as a paying guest in the near future
