I've never actually been there myself. I would love to go, but don't know where it is

Friends of mine that have lived here for over 20 years take friends/visitors quite often. The impression that I get is that the food is average to good, but that the scenery is outstanding.

Don't interrupt me when I'm ignoring you!

I'd love to see things from your point of view but I can't get my head that far up my bum.

I've lived here for many years and El Monasterio has always been the place to go for special occasions. We've never had a bad meal there and it's always been an enjoyable outing. Friends of mine book their New Year's Eve months ahead in one of their dining rooms.

We sometimes go there in the afternoon for coffee and cake and I've been with friends for lunch. There are several restaurants in this old monastery complex and you can surely find something to your liking, be it outside dining on the patios or in one of their dining rooms.

I've made a photo album of one of my visits there with one of my English friends who likes to go for outings with me.

Here's the link to my photo album:

I'd suggest you go for a visit there during the day and see how you like it. It's very pretty and you have a great view over the Orotava Vallery.

I've been a few times and would classify it as a tourist trap for Germans. The buildings are interesting, the views are great, but as everybody else has said, the food is average and over-priced.

That being said, you've probably got to go once.

It is open 7 days a week all day till late. You go on motorway towards Puerto de la Cruz and go past that till you see a big orange building ontop of the hill on the right. You come off at the turning that says La Montaneta. Cross over the motorway past the fountain and bear right up into the hills. You cant miss it.

We have been going for twenty years. I would say the food is not fantastic, but it depends what you have. But, the surroundings do make up for it. We know all the staff and its very consistent. I don't find it that expensive either. The wine cellar is lovely and you can taste the wine and the old brandy! The banana flambee deserts are lovely and the cakes also.

Its a lovely place to go if you have kids as they love all the animals.
