My Mood:
Marsala, Playa San Juan, Tenerife

We decided to taake a trip down the coast having heard good things about Marsala.

Ambiance: The interior is eclectic - modern finish with classic style furniture. The chairs outside were comfy (didn't try one inside!) but I kept bashing my leg on the table base - not comfy! The music was a little intrusive, but not unpleasant - it would have been nicer, sitting outside, simply being able to hear the sea. The views are great - shame that the sea wall is so huge!

Service: Overbearing - which is sometimes worse than inattentive. I felt like I was being constantly interrupted by the waiter. For example, he would tell us to enjoy our wine whenever he topped up the glass rather than just quietly re-filling when necessary, and actually asked my companion to cut her steak and check that it was cooked properly the moment he put the food down, in addition to coming back after a couple of bites to see if everything was ok - he could have just done the latter, really. A shame, as this is such a relaxing setting, to feel pestered.

Food: The food is actually quite good. It's typical of many restaurants surfacing on the island right now - classic Canarian / Spanish dishes prepared and served with fresh ingredients and a few flavour twists into the bargain. The starters are more creative than the mains, but the mains are just as tasty. Desserts were disappointing; they were good, but the previous dishes had more promise, and I felt that the desserts were not at the same level.

Overall: It's a lovely restaurant, and I would recommend going at least once if you live in the area. I probably won't return unless I'm passing by or am invited by friends, for two main reasons; first, whilst the food is good it's really not special enough to make the trip - there are other restaurants popping up doing much the same thing. Second, the food is perhaps a little overpriced for what it is - they need to drop a euro or two from some of the dishes; for the same money I can have a better meal at my favourite restaurant, where the dishes are more creative and better prepared, with better service and a better view!
