I need some advice on long term pet boarding in Tenerife.

Hi, was just wondering if anyone knows anywhere that does long term pet boarding, and the rough costs....I will probably be looking at boarding for my lhasa apso from May - November this year, as I will be coming to Tenerife for 3 weeks in April, away for 6 months, and then in November back to Tenerife (hopefully for good)! dont want to take her on too many flights!.....I think waggy tails does this and its within their home, which would be perfect, as shes a bit pampered, and I dont think she could hack "kennels"......does anyone have contact info for apollo?
Much appreciated....any other ideas welcome!

Speak to Allen & Lesley at Digs4Dogs, they often have long term borders and are very good with them; you can guarantee they will be OK. They advertise on the forum or see their Digs4Dogs website. We use them for our dogs al the time and a friend of ours who went back to the UK and left their dog there for 6 months as they did not have the rabies done before they moved.

DEAR Helen and Sheil

I LOOK AFTER PETS SHORT TERM OR LONG TERM IN MY OWN HOME.

I LIVE IN PLAYA SAN JUAN WITH MY PARTNER AND UNDERSTAND YOUR PROBLEM.

I THINK IT IS HORRIBLE FOR THE OWNER AND FOR THE DOG TO BE IN KENNELS ON A LONG TERM BASIS - IT'S NOT GOOD FOR THE DOG'S SPIRIT AND I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY OWN LOVELY DOG - THATS HIM IN THE PICTURE - HE WENT IN FOR 10 DAYS AND CAME OUT WITH LARGE BALD PATCHES ON HIS FUR - HE WAS PINING FOR US AND TOOK IT OUT ON HIS LOVELY FUR - TOOK 4 MONTHS TO GET HIM RIGHT.

THIS IS THE MAIN REASON WE ARE OFFERING THIS SERVICE - NOT ONLY WILL IT BE ALOT CHEAPER THAN KENNELS THE DOG WILL BE LOOKED AFTER AND TREATED AS ONE OF MY OWN - MY PARTNER IS IN THE HOME ENVIROMENT ALL THE TIME AND HE IS THE ONE WHO DOES ALL THE WALKING AND CARING.

WE ARE 2 MINS WALK TO OUR BEACH AND GO THERE EVERY MORNING AT 6.30AM BEFORE ANY OTHER DOGS TURN UP SO HE CAN HAVE A LOVELY RUN. ALSO WE HAVE 2 VERY LARGE TERRACES WITH PLENTY OF SHADE.

WE ALSO TAKE OUR DOG OUT IN THE DAY FOR ANOTHER WALK LATER ON IN THE AFTERNOON ALONG THE SEA FRONT.

I HAVE JUST LOOKED AFTER A BLACK SPANIEL FOR 5 WEEKS WHILE HIS MUMMY WENT TO THE UK TO FIND SOMEWHERE TO LIVE - SHE LOVED HER STAY WITH US AND NOW IS IN THE UK DOING WHAT DOGS DO.

I ALSO, NOT CONFIRMED YET WILL BE HAVING 2 POODLES TO LOOK AFTER AS THE LADY HAS TO GO TO THE UK AND HER PARTNER IS IN HOSPITAL.

SO IF U WANT TO HAVE A MOST COST EFFECTIVE WAY OF HAVING YOUR ANIMALS LOOKED AFTER AND HAVE THEM ENJOY A LOVELY HOME ENVIROMENT THEN PLEASE P/M ME I HAVE BEEN ON THIS ISLAND FOR 10 YEARS AND MY PARTNER 15 YEARS AND BOTH OF US DO NOT HAVE CHILDREN WE HAVE ANIMALS AND THEY GET SUCH LOVE AND ATTENTION THEY ARE MY PRIDE AND JOY.

I THINK THE AVERAGE KENNEL FEE IS €10-12 EUROS PER DAY PER DOG WHICH MAY BE GREAT FOR SHORT TERM STAY BUT DEF NOT LONG TERM.

LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS OF ANY INTEREST PLUS U WILL GET REGULAR UPDATES VIA EMAIL OR TEXT WITH PHOTOS TO KEEP YOUR MIND AT REST.

CHEERS IN ADVANCE

Hi Shirleyannb....Thank you for your reply! I am so confused now as I have had a few pm's aswell about this....will need to giive it a lot of thought and decide which option is right for Tia...it sounds like you provide a lovely enviroment for the dogs who stay with you...I also have an option of leaving her in th Uk for the 6 months with my brother, and then he will send her to me....really really dont know what to do, ......so much to organise just now with house sale etc..Thank you again for the offer and I will keep you posted! (sorry to hear about your wee dog.....my friend recently lost her wee ****su ...it got ran over, and had only just given birth to puppies...she was devastated...)

apollo hasn't had good internet connection of late - her business number is 628859973 ... it would be good to give her a call before you make any definite plans or if you like to pm me your contact details, I will pass it on as she will be here to pamper my Chow later this afternoon (the tea tree oil she put on his paw last week has worked - he's stopped chewing it, thank goodness)

Hi Helen

I know exactly what you mean.

I came over in 2000 with a Great Dane a ****zu and 5 cats and had just sold my house.

You sound like me don't want to be parted from your lovely pet.

If your Brother is reliable and will give Tia all the love and attention she needs then I would say go that route.

However if he works long hours etc then maybe not a good idea because those sort of dogs need human company.

The good thing about staying with us is she will get a beach walk and maybe a run at 6.30 in the morning when their are no dogs around and further walks during the day. The good part of this is my other half does all the looking after and caring when I am at work - he is as soft and as daft as me with animals.

So u know what's best for her what u don't want is for her to be changed when you have her back for good once you are sorted.

Also for a long let I am very cost effective and poss charge you what I charge for a cat per day which is €3. Her food would be seperate and they do food locally to where I live for ****zu's and similar dogs. Also I mentioned we have a good groomer here who cuts them lovely - and also she will have to have her Stronghold for heart worm and fleas etc which is also not alot but she must have it monthly.

Apart from that good luck with your move - I have been here for 10 years and love it love it love it and it's a better life for animals too out here.

Cheers in advance
Shirleyannb

Hi Helena & Sheil

Just a quick reesponse.
I tried to PM you but for some reason I couldnt do it, so hopefully you got my visitors message.

Failing that, just a very brief description of myself as you must be inundated with offers.

Basically I worked as a Vet Nurse in the UK before setting up a Dog boarding service which I brought to Tenerife with me to run along with my grooming.
I can provide you with a folder full of references from clients and vets as well as my guarantee that the care given to your dog will be second to none.

I shant babble on but please do get in touch if you feel I might be able to help you.

Hi Emma (malibu09) - glad your new guest has settled down now - it does take a few hours for them to get use to their new surroundings. Yes my 2 poodles are doing fine - they are with me in my home for 7 months and they had their rabies last Wednesday. I keep in contact with the owner in the UK and will send her some pictures of her dogs when I bath them next week. She is very pleased how quickly they have settled in and they are very happy and content with their new surroundings. She says that I am a godsend because there is no way she could have afforded kennels for that length of time and she can afford what I charge which is under half what a kennel charges plus she said she did not think they would have fared well in kennels - some dogs do some don't - some need that homecare one to one with the dog.

Just had another lady p/m me to look after her 2 small dogs for 1 month while she has to go back to the UK to sort out her move. They have one month left to go on their quarantine and then they can fly at the end of the month. They are being delivered on Monday to our house. Again she was let down at the last minute and she could not afford kennels and did not want them to go into kennels - she said one of her dogs was 9 years old and needed a loving home enviroment and one to one care .........

So let me know how yr new guest is doing. How long is he with u for?????????

Lots of love
