Kim Lunderford struck out 13 in a four-hit complete game gem and the Tenerife Magicians edged the Adeje Hawks, 2-0, last weekend to capture the Men’s Softball Spanish Championship.
The Magicians went unbeaten in the tournament with a 4-0 record while the Hawks finished with a 3-1 card.
Lunderford posted a 2-0 record with 30 strikeouts in 15 innings and a perfect 0.00 ERA. The right-hander, who earned Best Pitcher honors, also fanned 15 in a 3-0 victory against the Donostia Mariners.
Tenerife was led at the plate by designated hitter Jorge L. Giraut and catcher Jose Luis Salazar. Giraut went 2-for-3 with a run scored in the title-clinching game and claimed the Best Batter Award after hitting .667 (8-for-12) overall. Salazar was tabbed as the Most Valuable Player of the three-day tourney after hitting .642 (9-14) and finishing among the top three in hits, runs, RBIs, home runs and total bases.

Other leading hitters for the Magicians were Jorge Florentino (.667), Jilmer Marquez (.571), Richard Montiel (.500) and Abdel Amat (.462). On the hill, Juan C. Macias went 2-0 with a 3.11 ERA for Tenerife.
The Hawks boasted the best hitting squad (.467) and the stingiest pitching corps (0.37), and outscored their opponents 45-0 before falling to the Magicians in the championship game.
Dennis Hernandez batted .636 for Adeje followed by Domingo Martinez (.538), Angel Done (.500), Karlen Gonzalez (.500) and Eddy Vasquez.500).
Alfredo Rodriguez was the staff ace sporting a 2-0 mark with a 0.00 ERA.
In other tournament action, San Lazaro defeated Sevilla 15-9 in a high scoring affair which featured a pair of home runs for Jose Jimenez in a losing cause.
