Los Cristianos beach has been REOPENED to swimmers.
"The problems that have plagued Los Cristianos beach in recent times continued yesterday with the announcement that it is closed to swimmers until further notice due to pollution. The Department of Health ordered the closure after high levels of the harmful E. coli bacteria were found in water samples. It is believed the sampling were conducted on Monday on two spots on the beach, which is used by thousands of people, locals and tourists, every day. Arona Council had high hopes that the run-down image of Los Cristianos would be repaired by the recent facelift given both to the beach and the seafront after years of building work in the resort but this latest closure is a major setback."
Can it get any worse?

Yes I guess it should be pointed out that this is not Las Vistas since there are people down there at the mo and it presumably has a far better tidal flow.

I was down there the other week, could see a film of oil on the surface and it didn´t smell too nice either

This might explain the rash ( no pun intended) of an outbreak of infections including bad stomach cramps, vomiting, diahorea, and ear infections being reported over the past few weeks
It won´t surprise me if vessels are dumping/cleaning their grey water tanks in port

The beach at Los Cristianos has always been my favourite, but the fact that there is sewage pumping station between the town beach and Las Vistas beach is a bit off putting!
Factor something like this into the debate about independence for the islands...
