Exploration Architecture has announced plans for an innovative scheme combining greenhouses with solar power to provide food, fresh water and energy in desert environments.

Designed by ex-Grimshaw architect Michael Pawlyn, who worked on the Eden Project, test plants are being operated in Oman, Tenerife and the United Arab Emirates.

The Sahara Forest Project (pictured) uses “concentrated solar power technology” and “seawater greenhouses”. Mirrors harness the sun’s energy, while seawater is condensed into distilled water, giving the potential to turn desert to fertile land.

certainly wont be cheap to do - jduging from the Eden Projects history.

Tower Solar thermal power has been dominated in Sevilla, Spain with their thermal tower working along the same principals as Zarion`s link


The tower currently has 600 shinny metal plate ( mirroring/directing ) the suns energy to a focal point at the top of a tower

They are currently making way to include thousands more mirror at the site.
