Various activities organised today in Tenerife as part of World Parkinson's Day
Canarian associations of Parkinson's sufferers and their relatives are organising various activities today as part of the World Parkinson's Day campaign.
Local help groups in Gran Canaria and Tenerife are holding awareness-raising activities to increase public knowledge of the condition. In Las Palmas a flag-day is under way to collect money to help provide care for patients in the city's Day Centre. The head of the local association in the Gran Canaria capital, María Luisa Alemán, said that one of the biggest problems is to persuade sufferers that they have to learn to live with the fact that they have the degenerative disorder. 'They have to make a friend of their Parkinson's rather than constantly fight it, if they are to cope properly' she explained.
