Many parts of the Canaries continued yesterday in the grip of the ferocious winds that have battered the region for over three days.

Hundreds of flights have been cancelled in La Palma and Gran Canaria due to the conditions, which affected Puerto de La Cruz and other northern areas of Tenerife particularly badly yesterday. Winds speeds in excess of 130 kmh were recorded during part of the day and major damage was caused to one apartment block. Several major tourist attractions in Puerto de La Cruz closed for the day as a precautionary measure. The authorities also ordered the closure of schools in El Tanque and Icod de Los Vinos. In all, almost 60 schools in Tenerife and La Palma sent pupils home early to avoid further incidents. The winds are expected to die down towards the end of today.

very windy in playa san juan, playa de la arena and alcala at the moment. i work in los gigantes tonight dont know how thats gonna go as its an outside venue

Its pretty much gone now in El Medano and its very still, which is a rarity for us!! My pals flew yesterday though from Fuerteventura to Tenerife, and said they thought they were going to die .and they are not nervous fliers, far from it. Yikes.

Well i live near San Juan and work in Torviscas and have to be honest and say i didn't really notice any strong winds.

i got cancelled tonight in los gigantes due to the strong winds, it was bloody freezing down there, nobody around in any of the bars, hope it dissapears quick ( the wind that is)
