Refuse collectors & roadsweepers could go on strike on Thursday in Puerto de la Cruz
Refuse collectors and roadsweepers in Puerto de La Cruz could go on strike as of Thursday unless a deal is reached during the course of today, with the company that holds the tender for the service in the town.
Less than a week after Adeje's binmen returned to work following the bitter dispute lasting over a fortnight, which seriously damaged the tourist sector, their counterparts in Puerto de la Cruz have issued a similar warning to the Council that they will walk out unless a new agreement is negotiated. The corporation says that its hands are tied by the conditions of the tender negotiated by the previous mayor. However, the binmen say a preliminary agreement reached back in February has not been implemented and a 'gesture in the right direction' was required to avert the strike.
