Northern Spain has been suffering from the tail end of the storm that brought havoc to parts of the UK. Fifty boats have been sunk at the marina in San Sebastián where massive waves crashed over the harbour wall, flooding nearby streets and damaging cars. Lampposts were swept away along with rubbish bins and there was damage to the town hall and many other buildings.
The merchant ship Maro, which ran aground last Thursday, broke in three on Monday and there is concern that the 54 tons of fuel on board could have spilled into the sea causing damage to the environment.
