Be grateful you understood it at one time - I never have.

But do you think that things are actually getting worse, or is it just that reporting and information transfer generally are getting more effective, so that today we are more aware of how terrible things can be? Maybe without newspapers, TV and the internet, the ignorance would be bliss.

basically you are right, due to our modern technology news and information get spread within minutes, what happens now in new york city and is spectacular enough to be covered by press, we know 10 minutes later in japan, australia or timbuktu. then again, janot, it is not the fact that being so well informed which makes me wonder, but the tragical coincidences on what i thought a rather laid-back island. of course stabbing, shooting, violence happens in other places every single second and we won´t get really informed if a streetgang in the bronx kills a homeless alcoholic under a bridge or if some kids murder in sao paolo for a few grams of crack. we know it happens, we don´t need the evidence of the press to let us know.
when i say that i don´t understand the world anymore i mean that it is way beyond my comprehension why partners kill each other. even when i´d hated my ex that much, it would never occur to me to kill him. i think i will never understand in the first place why people are capable of doing anything like that while their own life is not in a situation where they are likely to be killed themselves...

Do you think that booze or drugs could have played a part?

according to the police/press in both cases both aggressors had psychic problems, so something poled wrongly in their heads/minds. but in general i believe that in the majority, when something like that happens, drugs and/or alcohol are involved.

Well, I believe you mean it when you say you can't imagine killing an (ex-)partner but there are psychologists who believe that everyone is capable of this given circumstances extreme enough. The difference between people is the point at which they would or not. Bear in mind that emotions are always in opposite pairs - if you are capable of love then you are capable of hate as well, and not everyone has the same self-control. And yes, perhaps drugs and alcohol often play their part in irrational behaviour.

i see where you coming from when you mention the self-control. this is exactly my point, you can love or hate both to an extreme, but even when hate is so strong, one should have the insight not to kill...but then again, giving this a thoroughful thought, who knows how i would react if my boyfriend just went out there and killed my daughter cos an inner voice told him to do so...

by the end of the day we are all only human....of course everyone would defend her/his life...but just killing for the sake of it, this is what i don´t understand.

My Mood:
A 40 year old Spanish woman stabs her German husband to death on Tenerife

A 40 year old Spanish woman, named only with the initials M.P.M.R. has been arrested in Tenerife in connection with the murder of her 62 year old partner, B.G., a German man who has been living on the island for some time.

The Civil Guard found the body in a house at Urbanisation Coralmar, Arona on the south of the island on Tuesday, but say that he had been dead for some days, and appears to have suffered several stab wounds, the fatal one going to the stomach.

It’s seems a simple domestic argument led to the fight which saw the woman stab the man four days ago, according to what she has now told the Local Police, after she was found yesterday thrown to the ground and crying in a commercial centre in Playa de Las Américas.

Because of her confused and incoherent initial statements police first thought the man had committed suicide.

She is now being given a psychiatric evaluation.
