On a resent holiday to sunny Tenerife, I went on a trip to La Gomera, it is a beautiful little island, fairly windy but when the wind dies down it lovely and hot. I went on a guided tour, which was very informative slightly boring in parts of the commentary and the timing was a bit off ("on the left you will see, but then you had already passed it so you blinked and missed it").
The whistling language demonstration was impressive, and the 3 course meal was not to bad as excursion meals go, I have had a lot worse, the staff were very friendly in the resturant and the owner was very funny with an excellent sence of humour.
It is a longish day leaving at 07:50 and arriving back at around 18:30-19:00 if your fortunate enough to be the first drop on the coach route or you are from the harbour area and can make your own way to and from the ferry.
There is a lot of getting on and off the coach, and the occasional small trek up and down a slop to get to the forest so this is not a disabled friendly trip.
I have to say I was fairly disappointed in the trip and this was not down to La Gomera, it was the organisation of the trip that I felt was fairly poor, you got on the coach were driven through some beautiful scenery for a short while then off the coach for a 30 minute sightseeing break and to use the loo, but there was only 2 loo's no locks on the doors no loo roll, and so many coaches, you stood in a line for 25 mins to use the loo then back to the coach, NO sight seeing time left, this very much continued throughout the trip, even at the forest the pride of La Gomera 30 minutes time to use the loo pay for a palm wine taster then up the hill to the coach there is more to La Gomera I'm sure but the tour did not do it justice, which is a shame as La Gomera gains a lot from tourism.
On the whole i would go again, but i would hire a car and make my own way there so that i could really enjoy the beauty of La Gomera, I paid 39 euros for the trip including the 3 course meal you can pay 49 euros for the trip but this includes a 4 course meal, the trip is far to rushed and I feel that money would have been better spent on the island in the shops that La Gomera has to offer which i possibly would have done if i had the time to spend any money.
My hat goes off the the coach driver and the skill she used to get through some very narrow dodge the on coming coach lanes.
You should also take a warm jacket it can get very cold in parts.

I enjoyed the La Gomera trip which was informative. For a first time visitor to La Gomera a trip is a good way to do it. It has such a different atmosphere to tenerife, and I just love being on the water with the chance to see dolphins.
Freebird have a jeep trip to La Gomera, its more expensive but far more personnal and more flexible thn the coaches...it is sometimes worth paying that bit more

The scenery was great and we actually enjoyed the day out but agree with the comments re the coach trip. I think next time we will also hire a car or even stay over the night as when we got back to the harbour in La Gomera the town square had a lovely atmosphere and I would have liked to spend more time there instead of the swift half before we had to rush down to the ferry.

if you want to see gomera, get a motor and a map. theres plenty of pensions in valle gran rey, 35 euros a night for a cheap place. gomera has alot to offer in the way of scenery, the garajonay national park is a lush lural forest with brilliant walking trails. just driving around the island is a plesurable expiriance, stopping along the way. playa santiago is nice so is agulo and valle gran rey. very quiet, a far cry from the noise and husstle of las americas...
so sorry to hear your story. i am a jeep driver and take clients over to gomera 3 days aweek, and i hear this story about the coach tours all the time. we take you where the coaches can not go, most likely eat in the same restaurant, las rosas but i can asure you that it it so much better. if you would like to revist gomera just let me know. it costs more but worth it you only get what you pay for.
Hi, I am from the Islands. I agree that La Gomera is beautiful, very beautiful indeed. But from my experience, I wouldn't want to live there. It is great to visit, but to get from one point to the other, there are so many, many curves...
One thing that I found interesting is how people live in places that are totally disconnected from the road. When I saw this, I thought that to do the shopping and bring it home must be quite a challenge.
Can anyone tell me how long the ferry takes to get there? Going on the organised trip for my birthday, thought it would be a nice treat, but a bit put off now by the comments.
