Im a riding instruvtor here in the UK, and went around to Rancho Grande and was basically saddended by the condition of these horses, they had no hay/straw to eat, - but have to look out onto lush golf lawns of grass! there shoes were ill fitted and no doubt were putting pressure on the animals feet. It bothered me more that they were staring at grass they cant eat Having visited a fair few riding centres in Tenerife this one i wasnt impressed by. ranche Bonanza near San Isidro is excellent, there horse are well fed, the owners are from Germany, they are well shod, and very well cared for. And riding costs just 15e per hour.

Quite suprised at your post Tinker. Although I have never been there I know that Tia runs it and concidering the way she helps raise funds for Live Arico Dogs I can't imagine her working with horses that are not cared for
well we called around at mid day last week, no one about, horses stood about nothing to eat, heads hung very low. Now dont get me wrong its extremly hard to keep horses happy in heat and with no grass either. But the shoes on the horses were very very badly fitted and from experinece seeing horses only 10mins away its not because there is lack of a good farrier. Also my mum went around a couple of months ago and pre warned me never to go ... unfortunatly i did and i was very upset. even more so that the poor things could see lush grass!!! Now the horses were fat enough they just looked very fed up. and the place wants smartening up. Sorry if i caused offense just how i feel. and ive seen horses looked after better else where.
Many of those horses have been rescued by Tia, she has had to pay for them as she could not bear to leave them where they were, so obviously some have issues. She cares for those horses 110%. The Ranch is closed from mid day, she feeds them then returns at around 4pm. She had a visit from Zoologica ( A government organisation) recently, who commented that if all Tenerifes horses were looked after as well as hers they would have nothing to worry about. I will alert Tia to this thread she will be devastated, her whole life is dedicated to animals.

all Im saying is what it looks like to an outsider and a knowledgable one at that! The horses should rest mid day due to the heat, but seen as horses are grazing animals it cannot be nice to face lush fields! Providing forage for them horses over there is hard, expensive, and not the best of quality anyway. and well done if they are rescued. but from my view, and first impression the place looks tired, badly fitted shoes (which isnt Tias fault just i would want a different farrier) and cant imagaine the fustration of the horses having natural desire to eat/forage and not being able to, along with staring at grass. IMO
