Animal welfare in Tenerife discussion thread

Oh dear oh dear.

As an outsider I must say I am less than impressed.

This poor dog has apparently been there for some time and remains in this condition.

Although a little unclear in the photo, the dog has severe lesions on top of its head with open pussy wounds. In my opinion he looks dead, or just plain given up completely.

I heard a rumour that some vets went in a short time ago, I dont know if this is accurate or just hearsay, but I would be frightened to take an animal to any vet who did not notice this poor chap.

Surely this is an inhumane way to keep any animal???
Not wanting to put the cat amoungst the pigeons but I am really quite upset by the suffering that appears to be going on down there.

How long has the dog been in this state? Is it today or do you think longer?

Re: Volunteer dog walkers needed for Live Arico, Tenerife

When was this photo taken of the dog? And if it was taken by you, did you not aske Euegnio or some one else what was up with the dog?

How long has the dog been at live arico?
How old is the dog?

There are loads of questions to ask about this photo, but what i know is that Euegnio works his bum of to look after all of these dogs and he knows what is best for the dogs. Asfor the vet comment I dont realy think that is a fair comment either as you do not know the answers to the above questions.

Plus you try feeding over 200 dogs, and looking after them, its ok judging some one else but if people didnt dump dogs in the first place then there wouldnt be the sitution there is now. Yes the conditions the dogs are in arnt perfect but thats all he has got at the moment, but if you have read the papers you will see that Live Arico are sorting out new land to make the conditions better.

Well, this photo was taken around about a month ago (the dog had been there for some time according to Eugenios sister- he was not there to speak to) and remains to this day.

Malibu - do you actually know what you are talking about

However - in answer to your questions:

The dog is "very old" according to the sister.
This makes no difference however as why should any animal of any age be left to die in this condition. What justifies this???
The cost of euthanasias are next to nothing and in some cases free so there is no excuse to allow it to continue to suffer.

You know this do you?
And what exactly qualifies him as knowing what is best for the dogs? Is he a Vet? Is he trained in any way?

Im sure he thinks he knows what is best for them and Im sure he does work hard at times but it is not good enough.
A lot of owners think they know what is best for their own dogs and end up with morbidly obese or untrained etc animals. This does not mean that just because they "think" they know what is right, that in fact they "DO" know what is right.

I agree with you that if people didnt keep dumping their dogs there wouldnt be so much of a problem but sadly we DO have this problem on this island and forcing the dogs to live in squalar is no life.

I do not normally get into open debates, however when animals are concerned I feel I must do something. They have no voice with which to speak, so we must speak up for them.

Well im sorry to have to say this, but this poor dog obviously has no quality of life what so ever, so what is the point in prolonging the poor creatures life in such poor conditions. It is so sad to see

I fully agree that the dogs shouldnt be in the condition they are in, but unfortunatly Euegnio cannot say no, and obviously people cannot be arsed looking after their dogs which makes them end up in the refudge. Euegnio does work very hard yes, and I do know this yes i do, seen as he lives with the dogs, and spends all his money on the dogs, all of the dogs love him to pieces, and if he is not there for what ever reson he is out getting a dog of a motorway or picking up collections, and I am not getting into an arguement with you, i was asking for more information on the photo. If you feel you must do something no offence but why didnt you take the dog to the vets the day you sore it? Its not expensive to put a dog downn??? Live arico does nothing but help these dogs, Any way i dont want to get into an argument on here every one has their own opinion.

Why can he not say no, when well run places like K9 do? They say no because they would rather look after 90 dogs well than 220 poorly.

No, why should I, the point of a forum is to place your opinion which i have done! So you cant say that to me. If you would read what i have actualy put, i said I dont agree with the conditions the dogs are in, but its not Euegnios fault is it? Nothing that i have put on her has been offensive or rude!! its purly an opinion!

I agree he is doing something rather than nothing but if it is not his fault there are too many dogs and they are subsequently in this condition, whose is it?
