Real pity, because it has a more interesting and modern menu than many UK style restaurants in Tenerife.

On my visit there, they actually told us that the dishes are bought in from a Canarian family! What food be sampled was lovely, but not to normal high Canarian standards that we can get in the small discreet tapas bars, but for tourists who wish to sample Canarian cooking without worrying about translations and by also having the opprtunity to question the dishes in their own language for ease of mind.........I think its perfect.

Could it be you are underestimating the sophistication level of today's tourists, not to mention the standard of food they are used to when eating out at home?
Quite frankly the vast majority of restaurants on Tenerife are nowhere near UK restaurant standards today - which have, it must be admitted, undergone a dramatic improvement in the past 20 years (they needed to!). .
Of course in the last generation, UK tourists have also gained very substantial experience of travelling to different countries as well.
And what about the local expat community, who presumably want high Canarian standards when they eat out. Obviously they should avoid Las Pergolas like the plague.
BTW the restaurant features a British chef, one of whose specialities is a cod dish. I'd be fascinated to learn that fresh cod is available in the local fishmarket. But if it isn't, why would you use something imported and frozen when high quality fresh fish is available daily?

Whether you like it or not.....there will always be the people who travel abroad and crave the English food and never dream of going into any outlet unless it is obviously British run. This is where I think Las Pergolas is perfect as there is no worry about the language barrier.
As regards to UK restaurants, yes, some of them can be good, some can be bad, just the same as it is all over the world.......................... but there are some amazing restaurants over here, from small tapas bars to Michelin rated.
I certainly wouldn't say that expats should avoid this restaurant, the food was lovely............ but I personally, would prefer to go out of town. I was short of time on this particular day.
As regards the chef.....no idea, but yes, why use frozen cod instead of the amazing local fish we have here?

Sorry have I got this wrong or is this thread about Summernites? I think it has got off track a bit. La Pergola is next door.

Yes Pergola is next door but they are all the same business, the same man owns all three so they are connected.

I walk past these bars on a regular basis and constantly wonder how they get away with cluttering the street up with their 'A' boards. Apart from the fact that no-one else in L. C. can get away with it and the obvious inconvenience to familes with kids and buggies and pensioners being squeezed into such a narrow space (the path isn't that wide anyway), if they were that good they wouldn't need such obtrusive advertising.

Thank you Jane I own an apartment near Summer-nites and we always have a good welcome from John and all the staff when we visit-first time I've seen Gavin Nicholas also Morgan was excellent. John seems to be going from strength to strength with Summer-Nites and the other ventures.
