Eight of us went down to Flaherty's today with the expectation of a sumptuous Christmas Carvery lunch. Boy were we disappointed.
We were told to arrive after 3.30pm but when we got there we were told the staff were having their lunch and the doors would be opened at 4pm.
We were one of the first parties to arrive, the smells coming from the kichen were promising and the meat on the carvery looked splendid.

It all went down-hill from thereon.
The meat, sausages and stuffing were over-cooked and had the texture of leather, all of the veg were under-cooked, I like my veg with a bit of a 'bite' but believe me, I don't think this lot had seen the inside of a pan. To top it off the gravy was cold too. One of our party, (the first to be served), told a member of staff who then brought out more roast potatoes which were again - cold. Nothing else was said or done.
The tables were not set on our arrival and they ran out of forks with only about 25 or so customers eating at the time. The Christmas Crackers were under a table near the bar for you to help yourself.
To cap it all off - a small boy of about 6 years old was wandering about and took it upon himself to pull up a chair at our table - obviously wanting to play with our Grandson. This we didn't mind for a while but when we asked him to leave until we had our meal, he continued to interupt and was rude to us. It turns out he was the Carvery chefs son and she seemed happy for him to intrude on our meal and basically have a free babysitter for the day - we were not!
In short - horrible food, rotten service - certainly not recommended. Nearly 300€ down the pan!
As you can see from this and my other thread today, I'm not having much luck with my festive activities. Shall stay in bed until 7th January methinks.
