Unhappy Christmas lunch at Flaherty's, Los Cristianos, Tenerife was a big disappointment.

Eight of us went down to Flaherty's today with the expectation of a sumptuous Christmas Carvery lunch. Boy were we disappointed.

We were told to arrive after 3.30pm but when we got there we were told the staff were having their lunch and the doors would be opened at 4pm.

We were one of the first parties to arrive, the smells coming from the kichen were promising and the meat on the carvery looked splendid. It all went down-hill from thereon.

The meat, sausages and stuffing were over-cooked and had the texture of leather, all of the veg were under-cooked, I like my veg with a bit of a 'bite' but believe me, I don't think this lot had seen the inside of a pan. To top it off the gravy was cold too. One of our party, (the first to be served), told a member of staff who then brought out more roast potatoes which were again - cold. Nothing else was said or done.

The tables were not set on our arrival and they ran out of forks with only about 25 or so customers eating at the time. The Christmas Crackers were under a table near the bar for you to help yourself.

To cap it all off - a small boy of about 6 years old was wandering about and took it upon himself to pull up a chair at our table - obviously wanting to play with our Grandson. This we didn't mind for a while but when we asked him to leave until we had our meal, he continued to interupt and was rude to us. It turns out he was the Carvery chefs son and she seemed happy for him to intrude on our meal and basically have a free babysitter for the day - we were not!

In short - horrible food, rotten service - certainly not recommended. Nearly 300€ down the pan!

As you can see from this and my other thread today, I'm not having much luck with my festive activities. Shall stay in bed until 7th January methinks.

Flaherty's Xmas Lunch

Sorry to hear about the disappointing meal, but I really think you should have complained strongly & refused to pay the full amount. They do not deserve to be in business if this is how they treat their customers. I hope you didn't leave a tip!

If I were you I would go back to Flahertys & say after discussing it with the people you were with you feel entitled to ask for some money back; 300 euros is a lot of money on a disappointing meal. If they refuse, then ask for a claim form, which every legal business should have these; fill it in & take it to the consumer office if Los Cristianos cultural centre.

I can vouch for Pleasure Island, we used to eat at their Carvery every week. Unfortunately they now only serve it from 1pm til 4pm on s Sunday, not good for those of us that prefer to eat at night, so I am sure they have lost a lot of customers because of this. (Does Minx work there by any chance?)

We now go to the Roast House at Los Cristianos or the Village Inn Carvery at Island Village.

Good luck & please let us know how you get on.

Me and my wife had our christmas lunch at the bar san juan in playa san juan, the food was excellent, cooked to perfection, the service was spot on, we even had santa round handing presents out to everyone afterwards, (totally unexpected) but a very nice touch we thought, we had a starter, then our main meal after that came dessert followed by tea or coffee and after dinner mints, plus both red and white wine on the table, all for 25 euros each, i know where i'll be going next christmas.

Thanks Jaype.

For the first time ever, I didn't leave a tip. I felt bad about it at the time as I know wages are low and these people were working on Christmas Day, but I'm a great believer in praising what I'd like repeated and complaining about what I don't want repeated so I feel I did the right thing.

I will certainly consider your suggestion.

an excellent lunch

wow, i dont know what went wrong with your meal, but my party (6 of us) had an excellent xmas lunch at o·flahertys. We booked for 6pm and stayed for the entertainment. The food was really good, we all had second helpings for free which i thought was very reasonable for 25 euros per head. The staff were lovely and we went back boxing day and new years eve - brilliant fun! I can honestly say i´ve had some of my best nights out there, last year and this. I think you should have said something at the time so they had a chance to put any problems right because this does´nt sound like the bar i know.
