A baraquito is my favorite nightcap.
I find the whole Spanish/Canarian coffee culture fascinating.
Janet taught me... Cafe Americano con leche caliente seperado. Lasts longer if you are whiling away an hour or so.![]()

Yes, great for the middle of the day, though a barraquito is my favorite "cap" , night or otherwise!

There we are! Another career for the enterprising: a specialist Spanish/Canarian coffee shop educating all of us how to order, make, serve and drink all these different coffees and the chocolate (con churros) of course! I expect there are some wonderful old grinders, stirrers and heaters in those old fincas (talking coffee of course!) Any recipes? Expect our Carnation milk is the equivalent or something thicker?
Back to Las Chafiras: I like going to the Canarian cafe behind McDonalds. The staff are really friendly and the food is freshly cooked with a menu in English etc. It's very cheap and excellent value so when the Biltmore people are waiting for their electricity it's a great place for breakfast/brunch...... unrushed, efficient, very calm atmosphere. Felt very comfortable on my own there reading the German newspaper provided. Don't speak German but as it was about Tenerife I deduced some idea of the content of the articles.
On the trip to Santa Cruz we saw pylons lying at intervals on their sides from Arico towards the airport; so they really are bringing more power to the south!
I had the mischievous thought that Unelco Endesa had tied a long cable linking each one and someone at the beginning would pull the end and all the pylons would stand erect together like masts of a ship in a bottle..... well it was quite a long journey! A poet once said that pylons were 'like tall ladies striding (or dancing) across the fields." Well I hope they're not too ugly and spoil the view! Wish artists would paint the windmills or that they were transparent; but I do like them in moderation.
Thank goodness no locusts or cockroaches. There was more wildlife as well as the lizards: some huge colourful butterflies and two magnificent birds of prey who hovered every day above the wild area opposite the balcony and would suddenly swoop down to catch whatever in the scrub. Golden 'tubular bells' shook on the tall wild plants there and they lasted very well in the sangria jug I use as a vase ('til its proper use in Summer of course!)
One night there was a phenomenal sunset... delighted with my photos. Euphorbia on the hillside looked very strong and bright green.
Much more to tell. Manana, manana. Soon... Biltmore people!

Hola Janet!
You wouldn't believe how many women are championing my cause! We are such intelligent and devious creatures (even had the wonderful offer of free lock-up space!) but this time it's 'softly, softly catchee monkee' 'cos he's more intelligent than I! He'll quickly guess what I'm up to.
I'm going to mount my campaign at Easter when we are in Tenerife and will keep you posted about my treacherous wiles. It will take a lot of dirty washing... floating....for days; lots of 'Home' magazines with the bathroom pages open; a jolly good dinner inveigling friends to comment on the unnecessary unattractiveness of bidets etc. etc. It won't be easy.... he's developed a strange sort of loyalty towards them.........
Really, Welshsprout!![]()

Are you implying that we at Las Chafiras aka LLano del Camello do not need to learn about Spanish/ Canarian coffees? We're a sophisticated lot who are willing to spend hours drinking........ coffee!Or maybe you thought we already knew all there is to know?
