To heat or not to heat a swimming pool in Tenerife? That's the question!

I've been told that a heated pool on my complex will cost me an extra 1000 euros a year in community fees, seems a bit steep, is it true?

Unlikely unless it is a tiny community. Do a search for the Dinistia thread - they have discussed detailed prices there

Thanks Doreen, its La Fuente in Palm Mar. So its not a small community, when I purchased 3 years ago was told that the pool would be heated, now no one seems to know.

What they might have told you was that the mechanism for heating the pool would be installed as part of the building, but the decision to use the mechanism and actually heat the pool will be one that only the community of owners can make.

Hi and thanks Janet try this link, do you think a 1000 euros a year would be about right. http://www.palm-mar.com/san-remo.asp

I've no idea, I'm afraid. I know the development, of course, but I don't know about the costs of pool heating. As Doreen said, the Dinastia owners will know because they've just got their own main pool heated, so a read through the latter pages of their thread might give you the best idea.

we have been quoted approx 6,000 - 8000 Euros to run our pool heating for 5 - 6 months. and there are just over 200 apartments on the complex.

so that works out at 40 Euros each or over a full year less than 1 euros per week.

Thanks Peter, I don't think La Fuente is going to be quite a big as that but even so that is more like what I had in mind

i think the heating cost us about just under 300 euros each to have install and as Peter has said running cost are nothing like 1000euros per apartment.
