Can anyone tell me what the journey to mount Teide is like in Tenerife?

Its been thirty years since I last visited Tenerife as I spend a lot of my time now in Almeria, Spain, but I have a holiday booked for the 2nd March. I am thinking of visiting Mount Teide as the last time I visited I went there and thought it was awesome, however that was when I was a lot younger and would not have been bothered by heights and hair pin bends etc. But now those things petrify me and I have a bit of a problem with it, so can anybody tell me what the journey is like to get there (as I have no recollection at all re the journey)? I am considering going there because the friend I am travelling with has never visited before and I dont really want her to travel there (Mount Teide) by herself. Any advise would be most appreciated.

if you are takin a tour (bus) then it will last about 4 - 5 hours and you will see a good bit of the mountain as well as good photo ops etc the road is like gradual increase so you should be fine. i think that the total height u get upto is about 2 miles.

i also know of a cable car that takes you to the very top however due to saftey it will not run wen it is too windy so plan ahead to avoid disapointment

If you are driving there yourself, the road from the north isn't as scary as the one from the south. The one from the south has beautifully impressive views though!

I think all of the routes are fabulous but in my opinion the most picturesque (and the one that gets me most excited!) is the route from Puerto De La Cruz through La Orotava.

We've only ever driven up ourselves, never taken a tour so I'm afraid I can't recommend one.

it is all very impressive, particularly now, with so much snow, only thing is you cannot go up there ,as all the access roads, are closed

It is quite an easy drive from the south. The roads in places are not in the best condition. It is great to see how fast the vegetation is regenerating itself following the fire about two and a half years ago was it?

Any time we've been to the top of Mt Teide, we've travelled by local bus. Isn't that still an option?

Hello everybody,
I obtained a permit for mount Teide' top, for time interval 15-17. But the teleferico is closing at 16.00. How long takes it the ascending to the top? Do I have enough time to get back with the telecabin?
