Tenerife is starting to sound like a value for money holiday destination again

A workmate has just returned from holiday in Rhodes where he was paying €4 for a SMALL beer and €10 for a G&T. Obviously he was cradling his glass & making sure it lasted all night.

Maybe the tourists will come back afterall!

    A "cheap" holiday ! ! !

Oh dear, oh dear, that means even more football shirts, tattoos, Sun readers and crap karaoke singers will be on the Island.

I was rather hoping that it would be going "up-market" a bit.

Providing goods and services up to a standard, rather than down to a price.

You cant have it all ways.......
There are enough threads on this site asking where the people and money have gone, when/ if they will come back and what can be done to entice them.
The beer swilling, Sun buying, Kebab munching tourists might not be your cup of tea, but at the end of the day they are paying for their kebabs, beers and Suns (and much more besides). In other words, pumping desperately needed money into the local economy.

Tenerife will never go up market because it's not an up market resort! How many top class restaurants do you know that will keep the rich & famous happy for 2 weeks? Tenerife was successful because it was a cheap holiday location with year round sun. To get that success back it has to go back to basics and......................... be cheap!

I stayed in Falaraki about 7 years ago and the prices were really expensive then especially down the club bar streets, also had an extra week in Rhodes Town and that was just as bad, I remember calling my mother for some money as I has run out obviously not any cheaper then !

a few years ago the authorities here decided they want high quality tourism this resulted in a clampdown on noise and busy tourist areas and the making of many now near deserted golf courses.many businesses went out of business including one of mine.now the authorities are realising there shortsightedness and encouraging bars and businesses for a change.all economys need diversity and the south being based on tourism it needs both high quality and budget tourists.not everone in the south are millionaires so to much high end of the market prices would drive the not so well off out of town so to speak.i for one love the holiday atmosphere here in the south.once again a positive post is being turned round.grrrrrrrr
