Can I claim Child Benefit in Tenerife without a work contract?
I´ve checked throught the existing threads but can´t quite find an answer. My husband & I are expecting a baby in December. We are both have residencias. I´ve had a work contract and have paid into the social in the past but don´t have one at the moment. My husband doesn´t have a work contract in Tenerife as he still works for a UK company. Am I entitled to any benefits when our child is born either as a one off payment or on going? Thanks!
You will get the "baby cheque" which is for 2500 euros! Every new mum gets this but you won't get the 100 euro a month payment or maternity benefits without a contract. This is what I have been told, my baby is nearly 8 months now so things may have changed! I'm sure I will be corrected if my info is not correct! You will definately get the 2500 euros though.

Thats great news! 2,500 will come in very handy, there's so much to buy! Do you know how I apply for this cheque or do they give you a form or something at the hospital once the baby is born?
I am not sure but i dont think that you would qualify for the 2500 payment as although you are resident you have no work contract.I may be wrong but you could ask at Social Security or at the inforamtion centre in Los Cristianos

Don't worry Lisa you are entitled to the baby cheque, all new mums are! You don't need a contract!. I got my lawyer to do it for me but I think it's easy enough to do yourself through the Social Security office! My lawyer did it all for a small fee and it was well worth it, last thing you need really when you have a new baby to look after!!

I'd be amazed if you are entitled to this money if you or the father have no contract or not signed on as unemployed.
Honestly you will get it, if you want to confirm this with a lawyer (for peace of mind) give mine a ring, PM me for details!! My cousins baby is due in October and she is applying for it, she doesn't work and has no contract but she will still get the cash! Its a move by the government to encourage people to have kids as Spain has a very low birth rate!!

I think it would depend on how long you have paid into the system in total to qualify for the payment if you don't have a work contract. I don't agree with the statement that everyone will get it to encourage population growth. The incorrect word being everyone or everyone would come to Tenerife or Spain and have babies and then take them back home.
Cara is correct about the baby cheque, but as previously said, you need a contract to get the 100€ a week... however as and when you get a contract, you can apply for that at the Hacienda until their third birthday.

I am sure that I read you had to have lived here a certain length of time before you qualify. I will check my info and post back later. But hope you do get it as it will come in handy. There is also talk that the 100 euros will be given to all mothers - but just talk at the moment.
