Question What are the new railway tracks for in Los Cristianos, Tenerife?

I've just returned to UK after 2 glorious weeks in Las Americas - And am wondering if someone could please tell me what the "railway tracks" currently being laid on the Los Cristianos seafront are for.

Is it a "Wally train" or a branch line for the Santa Cruz -Las Americas tram?

I heard that it was going to be something similar to the wally trolley going backwards and forwards.

Just returned from LC and saw the 'tracks'. Other half is certain they are not tram/train tracks - they are made of wood, for starters! He thinks they are drains.

Let's hope he's right. Any kind of train running through there would spoil it so much!

And the best reply so far is Storm drains - sounds practical. But I can't see wooden storm drains lasting too long though.

Shame - I was expecting to see "Thomas the Tank" when I return in November.

I noticed them also last time we were out. Initially thought they were rail tracks and thought they reminded me of the rail tracks that run the small train on the Brighton Sea front. Then I looked again noticed they were wood and after a bit of curious walking up and down could not work out what they were for??

The wooden rails have been put there so that the contractors can concrete around them to get the levels right- so the water will run down the drains afterwards! They may take the rails away or block pave over them, putting grids in above the gulleys which are already installed to take all the water. In short, they are like the grids in your street which take the surface water!

Thanks to all for the explanations re the "tram" lines - When I was out there no-one seemed to able to tell me and I was getting a bit cranky about it.

When do the "winter rains" appear? If storm drains are needed, they must be quite heavy - tropical style?
