Can I use a cash card which is not a debit/credit card in Tenerife?

It will be my first visit to Tenerife in two weeks time. I am wondering if I can use my Barclays cash machine card in the hole in the wall machines in Tenerife. Please note that this card is a simple cash machine card and not a debit or credit card.

Thanks guys!

Think you will find that you cannot use this card abroad. If you have just the basic cash card it an only be used in the UK in certain designated cash machines .

Has it got a VISA or Mastercard symbol on it? If it has you will be ok but if not it almost certainly will not work.

You´ll most likely need Visa/Mastercard or Maestro to purchase and withdraw cash. If you cant get one in time then travelers cheques.

Hi Benboy. I have a Barclays Cash Card Account Card same colour as Barclays trade colours and definately cannot use it in any machine on Tenerife. If I need money from that account whilst over I use telebanking to transfer it in to another card account and withdraw money using the other card. Hope this helps.

Definitively no. I helped someone work the cash machine today and when they put their barclays hole-in-the-wall card in the machine said it was the wrong type of card.

No, like I have said before, it is just a cash card and therfore does not have a VISA or Mastercard symbol on it. My bank said I can't have a debit card I have no evil credit cards either!

Mine is a basic Cashcard card which has no other purpose other than allowing me to use it at the bank counter, 'hole in the wall' or on 'link' cash machines within the UK and definately is not 'Cirrus' enabled. My Halifax card was a cashcard but was 'Cirrus' enabled before they changed them over to 'Electron'.

Usually but I have had a couple of hiccups when they have transferred less than I wanted them to but it could be worse, they could transfer more than I wanted. Not a problem if it's just to your own account but if it's to somebody else's!
