Carnaval is upon us once again... and I had the school event on Thursday in Agua Dulce where I had to dress up in a glorified plastic bag as an indian, and again in Chio for my daughter's school yesterday, with all the infants dressed as strawberries. I will post photos once I've uploaded them.
So... a few questions to see what people are doing for carnaval this year...
What is/has been going on in your village/town/municpality?
Are you going to the main event in Santa Cruz?
What will you dress up as?
Once you've been, what did you get up to?
Have you ever been before and what was it like?
Please tell us all, so that people who have never been (such as myself, as I have either been giving birth, looking after babies or organising a small child's party at this time of year) can have a bit more of an idea as to how utterly superb it is!

1) Nothing this time of year 2) Might stay up next Sat. after CDT match. 3) Last time I went as Britney Spears but as she is in Re/hab now will probably go as a bowl of soup. 4) Wander around drinking lots of Dorada and trying not to flash my knickers too much in my mini skirt. 5) Go most years, yeah it was good. Not my type of music anywhere but the first few times you go you cannot believe the amount of people all dressed in fancy dress. Best to go with visitors that have never been before, don't tell them how big it all is and they will freak out

went to the school carnival "do" on Friday at Las Zocas, my little girl was a chinese girl, it was well done, lot of hard work went into it all - as always. We've never been to Santa Cruz for Carnival but always go to Sardine night in Los Cristianos which is brilliant. Last year we took some relatives one of whom had a bald head - well every wailing widow must have patted it rubbed it kissed it as they wailed past us, what a laugh!!! It was fab and the parade through the town the weekend before that was also amazing - so many wonderful costumes, the music, the sideshows - just everything was marvellous. Santa Cruz must be out of this world.

For all of you that went to your kids' 'carnaval do' at school, just to let you know for future years, each teacher ends up making about 20-25 costumes!!!
So... spare a thought for them and pop into the school and lend a hand
At our school this year, they had an afternoon where the parents were invited to come in and help... only 2 turned up! I ended up making about 60 'plaits' and about 5 indian dresses in order to assist the teachers... the poor devils...

Oh my god! never have been in the Santa Cruz carnival?? if you are in the island and not come here you haven´t been in Tenerife. I have bee on friday and saturday and it is ...wonderfull, wonderfull, wonderfull. Full funny people streets, everybody get on very well (you feel better if you go in fancy dress). All the town is carnival, music, drinks, happines (like the starcos but all the city If someone want to come call me I can show you the best place to be today (today it will be the most biggest party). and the Wednesday is the sardine funeral night in the La noria street where it will have kilos of horse mackerels free for everybody..yupiiii!
Pd: and dont forget to visit the "Corinto's alley-way" is the most famous place in carnival. This little street conncts two popular streets in the town (el castillo and san Jose) and in carnival people squashed here in the middle of a crazy party. Obviously people could go for other ways but they pefer the contact with other hot bodies...

If you can find someone that me and my kids trust to have them for the whole night while I go up partying, plus the next day while I recover, I'll be there in a shot... unfortunately the logistics haven't really added up in the last few years.
I'd LOVE to go...

I arrive with three friend in Tenerife on Wednesday afternoon. We were thinking about heading up to Santa Cruz at the weekend from Golf del Sur (by bus) to catch some of the carnival events. If anyone has been before maybe you could tell me what I should definitely not miss this week, or if there will be similar things happening in Los Cristianos? We are open to suggestions!
Santa Cruz is your town. On wednesday night is the sardine funeral party everybody wear like priest, nuns or sexy wides (of course is a pagan night). A big sardine is burned and eveybody eating horse mackerels and dancing. the next 23 friday and 24 saturday it will be great days too (and if you like Paulina rubio you can to see her ) Santa Cruz is carnival is a must!

We made loads of costumes in class. And we had a 2 cycle dance. There was lots of singing and music and all the parents came to watch. Its my uncle richards 18 th birthday today and hes taking me to Santaruz carnival on thursday with his girlfriend I'm going to be a cheerleader an indian or a mobile phone but I cant decide which yet. I can't wait I've never been to santa cruz carnival before.
