Hi Jack,
Have you seen this Guajara | Tenerife Hiking
If you can't be a good example ~ then you'll just have to be a horrible warning.

Hello,
as planned we did walk up Mount Guajara, and we did choose the ,,difficult" west-side (via degollada de ucanca) to go to the top. And difficult it was because there is no real trail, but it was real fun. Just don't do this when rocks/plants are wet because then it can be a little dangerous. Our time-table of the ascent :
-10.55 : start at the Parador
-11.55 : first part of the ascent finished, now descending a little for the second part ( that without a real trail)
- 12.20 : after some searching we start the second ascent
- 13.25 : finally at the top, after an hour of hard working
Maybe this information is usefull

The best way is from the Pasaje Lunar, however that involves a long trek in frm the road and if you are in the Caldera the best way is from the Parador along thetrack and up the track which as someone has commented difficult to see. It is a bit of a struggle especially if you are not used to walking /. climbing at altitude. That aside the view over the caldera is fantastic and to stand on the summit is an achievement. In some respects it is a harder trek than walking up Teide.
