The wall socket is different. With most modern BT phones the lead from the phone to the wallplug is replaceable. You need one with small plugs both ends. Beware that the lead from phone to socket and the lead from phone to headset are wired differently, so get a small-plug/small-plug lead that is wired to go from phone to wall-socket. You can get these both here and in the UK. Once that's sorted out, all my imported UK phones worked fine here.

It's possible that the Tenerife ringing signal is weaker. I have 3 UK phones connected, and a DOMO. The DOMO rings first, then (almost reluctantly) the other phones join in after a couple of rings. Possibly Spanish phones have a lower REN?

-edit- Just remembered: the DOMO is connected via a Skype telbox, so probably that's the difference

Someone did tell me it was down to them being wired differently (ring signal on a different pin), I did try all possible combinations of the wiring all to no avail. Then someone else said it is the voltage as they is only one telephone point in my flat and that is already split for the telephone line and adsl I am reluctant to put another splitter in line to attach my UK telephone, as I am un-aware of ant potential problems this may cause.

BT does use a different pin out for its phones. In Ireland and from what I remember in Tenerife the plug connections are whats called an RJ11.The center 2 pins are used. So look at the plug coming out of the phone with the little clip away from you and see what are the 2 center pins are(colors are usually red and green). Make sure the center two pins are the same the other end.

It should work then.

There is one other thing. Some phone systems (older systems) are are what is call polarity sensitive. They have to be inverted at the opposite end.So if its red green at the phone end it has to be green/red at the wall end. This can be done inside the wall by reversing the wires also.

Theres a few things that can be done to sort it out but would need to see it.

Hopefully reversing it will be helpfull. If not sorry.

When I'm over in april maybe I can solve a problem for someone and then it will be solved for all and be posted here.( actually i'm over in Feb loking at apts i hope for 4 days) Should be able to solve it as its my line of work.
