Went to Play Police station, applied for NIE - they only wanted passport.. that was it!! Then went to the Arona centre in Los Cris, got EMPADRONAMIENTO with only a passport - no proof of residence required.. 2 hours for the lot Wow - my lucky day I guess??
P.s costs = NIE 0, EMPADRONAMIENTO = €1.80

But was that your NIE number - the number you'll get in about 5 days on a piece of paper.
Its the residencia - next stage up and card format of your NIE number that takes the time. Although you usually only need the number for most processes
