Hi Laurajayne, I recently spent 5 months working just outside Cadiz. I invested in a course via Linkword Languages (www.linkworklanguages.co.uk) - it's really easy, gets you the basic understanding in your head, then it's chatting to the locals and off you go. If you're friendly with a local, get him (or Her) to teach you 5 new words a day. Not a brainbuster, but calculate it out, that's nearly 150 a month, the more you learn, the easier it gets

I used linkword when I first came here and when I learned Greek (I lived there for 3.5 years too). It's an excellent start and helps you remember stuff, which is more useful when you're learning a language when you're older. It also teaches you silly phrases, which seem strange at the time, but they are designed to enable you to 'use' the language and be able to construct your own sentences for whatever you want to talk about, rather than text-book phrases.

HERE's the book on Amazon.

I have been told that there are 'council' run courses available. There is one held in San Miguel. The price is €30 for a 3 month course, two days a week. There are three courses. Beginners, intermediate and advanced.

You can sign up for these at various places, including The tourist info shop at the Golf Del Sur.

This is only info that has been passed to me, and i cannot verify it. Maybe someone else has some further info, or feedback on how good they are?

That's correct. Guia de Isora council do it too in conjunction with Radio Ecca. I've just been on the Radio Ecca website at www.radioecca.org and you can actually download the Spanish lessons for foreigners!

http://online.radioecca.org/banco/curso.php?id=117

It's in Spanish though... which sort of defeats the object, really... however it's pretty much self explanitory.

EDIT : After having a listen, it sounds like it's for french people... great if you want to learn both languages, but pretty useless to the english peeps on here otherwise!

update

Go to the Cruz roja in Arona there was a 2 hour course every week day for foreigners at no charge.

If you want to learn you will don´t expect JUST the course to teach you. You have to have determination. I recommend if you´ve got knowledge already with Spanish, earn you verbs.

If you want to know what a car or object is in Spanish.................open the dictionary
