Hi, My wife and I will be moving out to Tenerife in the next two weeks and would like to get some feedback regarding work/job opportunities and demand for an experienced Marine Tech/mechanic.
I currently work on contracts in various countries but I'd like to stay 'local' as being away for 3 to 6 months is geting a bit old now ( like me).
I have done a search here in the forum but not much came up.
Any help would be gratly appeciated.

Eric

english or English speaking boat mechanics are like gold dust over here....we have used spanish mechanics on our boat for a few years now, but everytime they do something, we always have to call them back to put job right....lately, they cant even seem to do a simple service right. ( Don't get me wrong, but i am sure there are reliable spanish mechanics out there, it's just we cant seem to find them.)

SO, a MOBILE boat mechanic may well be a god send.

good luck what ever you choose to do.

Great idea Bluebird!. I hadn't considered the option of going self-employed.
To pick your brain a little more, do you have any idea of what the hourly rate is for mech's, or do they quote by the job?

the last service we had done was €520.00 this was for the basic oil and filter changes, anodes etc. no belts or seals though. if i can remember rightly, the labour change was about €35.00 per hour.

Thanks for the info BlueBird, not a bad hourly rate!

We're not on the Island yet, but will be very shortly as I'm in the process of working out the details of a new contract.
We found an apartment, it's down at The Palms in Golf del Sur.

Eric

shame, we could do with your services. our boat has just sprung quite a bad leak.....it looks like it is coming from the prop hydralic lift mec or around that area.

Never mind though....keep me posted as to when you get here and i am sure your services will be required at some time.
Good luck with the move.
