Tenerife! - You will hate it.
I have just discovered that everything that 'they' say about Tenerife is true, so here's the evidence 
Tenerife beaches are all black sand

The sunbeds are all lined up in a regimented manner and so close to each other

The beaches are really busy and you can't get away from people.

It's a barren place, sort of dessert-like and scrubland. There's no vegetation apart from what has been purposefully planted.

Excellent point, well made. Sounds like "they" never saw anything other than their hotel room in Los Cristianos.
The variety in Tenerife is truly amazing, and not difficult to find. It's a beautiful island.
