yep, I have a land rover, but I refer to it as a Range Rover ! and any parts I always bring over, in my suitcase, from radiators to window glass to window motor . . . . and even a seat . . . . . . is still cheaper than in Tenerife !!

Thanks for your helpful replies.
Since our Land Rover Defender broke down and had to be towed, we were in a bit of a cleft stick.
We had the repair done because we needed the vehicle, but since checking the UK price of the parts, we wondered if we had simply been hugely overcharged. In fact, we have been in recovery ourselves ever since.
A gasoil filter was 88 euros and the pump - bomba combustible - was 642 euros.
Too late to do anything about it now, but I thought maybe I could torture myself by finding out that I could have got cheaper parts elsewhere.
Awwwww, the pain.
Will find out prices for you tommorrow but sounds like they have had your pants down and smacked your

New business been launched as from 1st January 2010 called Car Parts 2 U. Keep your eyes open for the advertising campaign, they can source & supply most car parts new or used if available on the island. But like in a couple of replies already, some spares for certain vehicles are hard to come by on the island. So if the part needs to be sourced elswhere, and is available in Britain, as long as it is ordered by the last day of the month & paid for by the 5th of the month, it will arrive and be delivered to you or your desired destination in Tenerife by the last day of the month. The price you pay will include all shipping costs and import duties, no hidden extra´s. Hope this helps you & others.

It is something which I should of started in October of this year, but been a long term resident here in Tenerife I realised I was going to come across unexpected/unforseen hiccups, which I did. However, managed to overcome them now and we have recieved our first shipment of Head Gasket Sets including Bolts (as & when reqiured). Our next shipment left England last Monday and should arrive by this weekend, then we will have sufficient stock to launch the business on the 1st Jan 2010. I will be contacting as many Garage/Workshops/Mechanics that I am aware of with price lists etc as soon as they are available (1st week in December). As for the DIY mechanic they will be able to contact us by phone and we will deliver the parts they require directly to there door. If anyone would like a price list delivered please feel free to PM me your details. Regards.
