Can you get a UK Driving licence inscribed at the Spanish Embassy in London?

Does anyone know if we can get UK driving licences encrypted/stamped at the Spanish Embassy in London?

It is impossible to get through to the right department by phone to ask, I have tried for a week! I have e mailed too, but not yet received a reply!

If we leave it til we get back to Tenerife, where they send it to Madrid, it may prevent my husband starting work again until he gets it back, as he needs his licence for his work. He has to forfeit his Spanish licence in the UK to be able to use the UK one for work in the UK!

It would mean reapplying for a Spanish licence when in Tenerife & for the UK one every time we are in the UK; could become costly

I wondered if anyone on the forum has ever had their licence dealt with in the UK?

how long do you spend in Tenerife each year? As long as it's no longer than 6 months there is no need for you to get a Spanish Licence as your English one will surfice.

UK Driving licence

We have lived in Tenerife for 7 years.

My husband needed a Spanish licence for his driving job. He also needs the UK for a driving job in the UK on the odd occasion. We didn't know he couldn't have the two!

That is why we need the UK one stamped as he can't keep renewing licences depending on the country we are in.

That seems crazy surely your Spanish one is sufficient in the UK I thought they were accepted all over Europe seeing as though they are a European Licence.
Seems like yet again the UK need to get their act together.

sorry jaypeeps have no idea then.....just seems a lot of work to me. Can you not just hold 2 licences given the circumstances. I think I would try talking to D.V.L.C. If you haven't already.

Now - I wouldn't suggest that you do this because it is against the law

If you write to DVLC telling them that your licence has been stolen, they will send you another one (for a small charge). You could then theoretically drive in Spain and England with one driving licence and send the other to traffico to be encrypted. The one that goes to traffico will be temporarily replaced with a document that states that they have your licence for encyption anyway.

PS - I'm posting this on behalf of member aaa111bbb222ccc - it wasn't my idea

UK licence inscribed

The DVLA have asked for the Spanish licence which we do not want to give up as it is needed for work in Tenerife. As the UK one is needed for the job in the UK!

When back in Tenerife we will have to say we have lost the UK one, but already said this 7 yrs ago when initially applying for the Spanish licence.

I managed to talk to the Embassy today & as Casabonny rightly said, they cannot stamp the licence in the UK!

All we can do is hope my husband doesn't get stopped in the UK as it will show he has 2 licences. He wsill have to say he has lost the Spanish one!

What a mess!

Why do governments seem to go out of their way to make a simple procedure absolutey impossible
