Daylight robbery by main car agents for services in Tenerife
Me being me and wanting to test out some of the competition i sent a 1996 Renault Clio into a main agent for an estimate to get the emissions down for itv,I had a phone call from said garage asking me to call down.So off i went without my normal Ashro t shirt on.The garage manager came over and tried to explain that the car needed lots of work doing to it.After he had reeled off a list of jobs that needed doing (some of which had already been completed before the car went in) i just happened to get 1 of my cards out and the look of shock on that mans face was so amusing.So i took hold of the estimate (see below) went a paid my 42 euros for the privelage and off i went.Moral of this story is always get a second opinion when it comes to car repairs.
Best of all the same garage have been canvassing our area today charging 53,50 for an oil change with the coupon,Does this include filter or not or is this another hidden extra?
By the way i charge 40 for both on most cars synthetic is a little more

I had to pay forty two euros for one of their quotes and when I got home I realised I hadn't even got a written quote or anything to say actually what was wrong wwith the car!! I had to wait 3 days to give me the quote over the phone, everytime I phoned they said as I arrived with a grua and had no appointment I had to wait until they'd cleared all the other cars first.
My car has had an intermittent starting problem for some time. My usual mechanic has looked at it but told me it is an electronic problem and needs to go to Renault so they can put it on their machine which will show exactly where the problem is.
The main Renault dealer told me, by phone, my car needs a complete new starting unit and it will cost 1,234 euros to repair. Now I already know it needs around another 700 euros to get through ITV. It's only a very tatty 1997 Clio it's not worth spending 2000 euros on. I can buy a bit better car for somewhere around that price.
So I'm looking at it as a write off but maybe Ashro has some comments on this. Because I don't feel confident about what they've said. Firstly what do they mean buy a complete new starting unit and secondly (I only noticed this when I wrote it in an e-mail) the price is consecutive numbers 1234. As i received no written quote I'm wondering if they just said this to get rid of me.

I'm not very technical so apologies there but I think its not just in Tenerife that the main car dealers make excessive charges. My local Ford dealer charges £60 (75 Euros) per hour for any work and they told me I needed new brake discs, which I couldn't afford to attend to so ran the car for about 3 months before taking to be fixed at a small garage and guess what there is nothing wrong with the brakes!
Any way looks like you are offering good prices so I will bear that in mind when we move over to Tenerife in a couple of years time.

Sounds like they are trying the same ploy.Do they really think all British are made of money.Without actually looking at the car it is a bit hard to say what it is.PM me roughly where abouts you are or a phone number to get more details.seems like clio's had a bad spell between 1995 and 1998.Furthermore i DONT charge for a quote

Yes Ashro, we will definetly use you when one of our cars requires something. You appear to be a honest person, just like myself, and there is not many of us about.
